Stair of clouds

A modular flight of eight cloud-stone steps for the Cloud Kingdom kit: warm-white slabs with gold under-rims climbing out of a billowing cloud bank, flanked by gold handrails on chunky sky-blue balusters and a pair of gold-capped newel posts. It is 4 m long and rises exactly 2 m, so it snaps end-to-end on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Stair of clouds for the Cloud Kingdom kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. This is one part of the Cloud Kingdom kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Castles on clouds at sunrise. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: cloud white #f4f1ec, peach #ecb893, sky blue #2e67b8, gold #d0a225, cloud white dark #d7cebc, peach dark #e08d52, cloud white light #f9f8f6, peach light #f6e3d5, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `timeOfDay` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Time of day" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: 4392 triangles, 9 meshes, no textures and no animation clips. Scale and grid: the module is 4 m of run and exactly 2 m of rise (a fixed 1:2 slope), 1.6 m wide, 2.94 m tall to the top of the handrail. The origin is the snapping end, not the bounding-box centre: x = 0 is the stair centreline, z = 0 is the leading edge of the first tread, y = 0 is the floor plane, and the stair climbs toward -Z so the risers face +Z. Stack the next module at (0, +2, -4) and the treads AND the handrail line continue without a kink — that is why only the bottom end carries newel posts. Cloud lobes spill about 0.3 m past z = 0 and 0.32 m past the 4 m run at the top, which is deliberate: neighbouring modules' clouds are meant to merge. Part ids use the dotted root 'cloudstair' rather than the full slug because the kit's part-id grammar does not allow hyphens. Changing 'runMeters' keeps the 1:2 slope, so odd lengths rise a half-metre (3 m run -> 1.5 m rise) and only even lengths land on the whole metre in Y. 'timeOfDay' is a real build-time knob, not a viewer-only one: it swaps which two kit palette colours the cloud's lit and shaded masses wear (before sunrise: cloud white over mid grey; sunrise, the default: cloud white light over peach dark; high day: cloud white light over peach), and the exported material names change with it. Every material is named exactly for the palette colour it carries; the exporter emits one material per mesh, so the four gold parts arrive as four materials all named 'gold'. The sunrise sky in the preview is page background, not part of the model — the GLB is the subject only, with no ground, lights or camera.
