Drifting clouds

A low-poly set of sunrise clouds: a long flat-bottomed cloud bank that stays still, with three faceted cumulus clouds drifting above it on a seamless 8-second loop. Peach sun-side facets, white tops and warm grey flat undersides. Part of the Cloud Kingdom kit.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Drifting clouds for the Cloud Kingdom kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Cloud Kingdom kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Castles on clouds at sunrise. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: cloud white #f4f1ec, peach #ecb893, sky blue #2e67b8, gold #d0a225, cloud white dark #d7cebc, peach dark #e08d52, cloud white light #f9f8f6, peach light #f6e3d5, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `timeOfDay` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Time of day" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Kit scale: a sky prop 16.5 m wide x 9.3 m tall x 8.1 m deep. The still cloud bank is about 16 m long and 2 m tall, and the drifting clouds are about 7.8 m, 5.5 m and 4.1 m long, with their flat undersides 7.0 m, 4.3 m and 4.1 m above the floor. Origin is at the bottom centre of the rest layout, the bank's flat underside rests on y = 0, and the front faces +Z. 2640 triangles, 16 draw calls. Animation: one baked clip, 'drift' (8 s, seamless: the first and last keys are identical). Only the three drift pivots carry tracks. Each pivot sits at the centre of its cloud's flat underside, and each cloud slides on a small ellipse, bobs ±0.22 m twice per loop and swivels ±4° about that pivot. The bank (the base) never moves. Material names are the Cloud Kingdom palette colour names so the kit recolours as one. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat (glb-lint flags this as a heuristic warning). Sunrise is modelled, not textured: each facet is sorted by the way it faces into four palette roles (sun side, top, body, flat underside). Every primitive is non-indexed with per-face normals so the facets stay flat in any engine. 'Time of day' (timeOfDay) recolours the sun-side facets from the kit's five-step dawn ramp: mid grey below 0.2, peach dark to 0.4, peach to 0.6 (the default sunrise), peach light to 0.8, cloud white light above. Like every param it is baked at export, so the GLB carries the peach sunrise. At timeOfDay above 0.8, the sun-side material is named 'cloud white light', the same as the crown. Clearance was checked at every param extreme over the whole loop: no cloud touches another or the bank, and nothing dips below y = 0. The dawn gradient and light rig are viewer staging only; there is no ground, disc or plinth, and none of them are in the GLB. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its five warnings are heuristics: material count and repeated names (one material per mesh), non-indexed flat-shaded primitives, overlapping part boxes (the four facet-role meshes of each cloud share one volume by design), and scale (it compares a 9 m sky prop with the direction's 1 m reference height). Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. The root node is 'driftingclouds' because the kit's plan checker rejects hyphens in part ids; every sub-part uses the library's cloud-kingdom-drifting-clouds.* ids.
