Lock-keeper cottage
A low-poly two-storey brick lock-keeper's cottage with a blue slate gable roof, chimney stacks on both gables, white sash windows and a blue front door under a small gabled porch. A lean-to wash house, a lifebuoy and lock windlass, a water butt and a picket-fenced front garden finish it.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Lock-keeper cottage for the Canal and Locks kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Canal and Locks kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Slow boats through green country. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: canal green #3a883a, boat red and blue #2e67b8, brick #9e3d2e, willow #988e81, canal green dark #235223, boat red and blue dark #1f457a, canal green light #5db15d, boat red and blue light #6190d1, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `waterLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Water level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: about 10.0 m wide (x, including the 2.2 m lean-to), 7.7 m deep (z, including the 2.2 m front garden) and 8.55 m tall to the chimney pots (default params). The main block is 7.2 × 5.0 m, with eaves at 5.0 m and a 38° roof. The front faces +Z, the origin is at the bottom centre of the footprint and the model rests on y = 0. The GLB has 3,354 triangles in 40 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed), so the facets survive in any engine. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and 11 of the 12 kit colours are used (soot-black glass stands in for windows; there are no interiors). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. There is no text and there are no logos. waterLevel (the kit's 'Water level') fills the open water butt, from nearly empty to brim-full. It is the only water in this part: the canal itself belongs to the lock-chamber and towpath pieces. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings: material count and duplicate materials (from the per-mesh materials), unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (trims and windows embedded in walls on purpose) and scale (compared with the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in this library's slug-based ids. The same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes.
About the Lock-keeper cottage 3D model
Lock-keeper cottage is a free low-poly 3D model from the Canal and Locks set. It measures 10 m × 8.6 m × 7.7 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,064 triangles across 38 meshes, with 10 named parts. Download the 247 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Lock-keeper cottage 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 247 KB: 3,064 triangles, 9,192 vertices and 38 materials, modelled in metres at 10 m × 8.6 m × 7.7 m.
- Can I animate Lock-keeper cottage?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 10 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Lock-keeper cottage 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
