Coal sacks
A low-poly narrowboat coal drop for a canal wharf: willow-brown hessian coal sacks with twine-tied necks and a boat-blue band pinstriped in brick red. One sack stands open, heaped with black coal with a shovel stuck in it, one lies slumped on its side, and lumps of coal are spilt on the stones.

Left rail: colours and the 4 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Coal sacks for the Canal and Locks kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Canal and Locks kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Slow boats through green country. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: canal green #3a883a, boat red and blue #2e67b8, brick #9e3d2e, willow #988e81, canal green dark #235223, boat red and blue dark #1f457a, canal green light #5db15d, boat red and blue light #6190d1, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `waterLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Water level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: 1.63 m wide (X) × 1.48 m deep (Z) × 1.26 m tall to the shovel grip. Each tied sack is 0.85 m tall to the neck tuft (about 0.92 m including it) and about 0.55 m across the belly, roughly a 1 cwt coal sack as delivered by a canal coal boat. The open sack is about 0.61 m tall to its cuff. The open sack faces +Z. The origin is at the bottom centre of the footprint and everything rests on y = 0. The GLB has 1,702 triangles in 10 meshes (merged per part and colour), no animation clip, and flat-baked non-indexed normals. Every material is named exactly after the kit palette colour it uses (7 of the 12 kit colours); recolour by name. waterLevel (the kit's 'Water level') controls the damp from the wharf. A dark-wood wet hem climbs the standing sacks from 4% of their height at a low level to 30% at a high level, and disappears at 0. The slumped sack has no hem, and the canal water itself belongs to the kit's water tiles. sackCount: 2 = the open sack plus one tied sack, 3 adds a second tied sack, and 4 adds the slumped sack in front. sackHeight scales the sacks and spreads the layout a little. coalHeap sets how high the coal rises above the open sack's cuff. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Only the defaults were rendered and checked. The green ground disc in the preview is viewer staging only and is not in the GLB. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings, all expected. The geometry is deliberately non-indexed for hard facets. The coal, cuff and band runs nest inside the sacks. The twine ties rest on the sacks (a different part), so they are flagged as detached. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphenated slug ids this library requires. The same plan de-hyphenated passes, and three-check and the GLB reload keep all 6 ids. One fix round: the pale hessian vanished into the near-white stage disc and grey coal lumps read as ice. The fix was all-black coal, exposure 0.58, and a viewer-only green disc.
About the Coal sacks 3D model
Coal sacks is a free low-poly 3D model from the Canal and Locks set. It measures 1.6 m × 1.3 m × 1.5 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,702 triangles across 10 meshes, with 6 named parts. Download the 129 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Coal sacks 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 129 KB: 1,702 triangles, 5,106 vertices and 10 materials, modelled in metres at 1.6 m × 1.3 m × 1.5 m.
- Can I animate Coal sacks?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 6 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Coal sacks 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
