Canal tiles
A low-poly 4 × 4 m tile of an English narrow canal. Blue water runs between a brick wall, topped with grey white-lipped coping and a gravel towpath with mooring bollards and a hawthorn hedge, and a soft grassy offside bank fringed with reeds. The canal, towpath and hedge run on across the front and back edges, and both side edges are flat grass, so copies tile seamlessly in every direction.

Left rail: colours and the 4 knobs the agent wrote into this model — they rebuild the geometry and go into your download. Right rail: looks for the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:
Canal tiles for the Canal and Locks kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. Make it a ground piece on an exact 4 × 4 m footprint with flat edges at y = 0 that tile seamlessly with its neighbours in every direction; origin at the tile centre. This is one part of the Canal and Locks kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Slow boats through green country. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: canal green #3a883a, boat red and blue #2e67b8, brick #9e3d2e, willow #988e81, canal green dark #235223, boat red and blue dark #1f457a, canal green light #5db15d, boat red and blue light #6190d1, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `waterLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Water level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: exactly 4.00 × 4.00 m footprint, 0.97 m tall at the hedge top. The grass and towpath sit at 0.50–0.52 m, the coping at 0.54 m and the water surface at 0.27 m by default. The water is 2.3 m wide, a narrow stretch just wider than a 2.1 m narrowboat. The towpath is 0.73 m wide. Origin at the tile centre, bottom on y = 0. The canal runs along Z, and the front faces +Z. Tiling: both X edges are the same flat grass top at y = 0.5, and both Z edges cut the same cross-section. The canal, towpath, wall and hedge therefore run on into the next tile, and coping joints repeat every 1 m. GLB bounds are exactly ±2 m in X and Z, so tiled copies never collide. 958 triangles, static, no animation clip. Every material is named after its kit palette colour (11 of the 12 colours are used; boat red and blue dark is not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat (17 materials in the file): recolour by name. The GLB is baked at the default params; the params change geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. waterLevel (the kit's 'Water level') raises the water from 0.12 m (drained, with the full brick face showing) to 0.42 m (just under the coping). The algae line, ripples and offside waterline follow it, and the reeds stay rooted at the shore. canalWidth moves the offside bank, reedClumps sets the number of reed clumps (1–10) and seed reseeds ripples, reeds and hedge clumps. Both param extremes pass three-check and glb-lint. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its 5 heuristic warnings are expected: per-mesh duplicate materials, unindexed flat-shaded geometry, and 'detached' parts (the coping, towpath, algae line, ripples and bollards are seated on other meshes rather than touching the ground plane). plan-check rejects the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen in the first segment. That is its only complaint: the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes, and three-check and the GLB carry the ids correctly.
About the Canal tiles 3D model
Canal tiles is a free low-poly 3D model from the Canal and Locks set. It measures 4.0 m × 97 cm × 4.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 958 triangles across 17 meshes, with 10 named parts. Download the 83 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.
- Is the Canal tiles 3D model free for commercial use?
- Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
- What file format is it, and how big is it?
- A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 83 KB: 958 triangles, 2,874 vertices and 17 materials, modelled in metres at 4.0 m × 97 cm × 4.0 m.
- Can I animate Canal tiles?
- It ships as a static mesh. Its 10 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
- Which engines and tools can open it?
- Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
- How was the Canal tiles 3D model made?
- Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
