Kelp

A low-poly giant kelp plant. A dark holdfast grips the floor, four slender brown stipes lean with the current, and long ruffled green blades each rise from a small golden gas bladder.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Kelp for the Aquarium kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Aquarium kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Glass tunnels through blue water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: deep blue #1b447e, coral orange #ed7e1d, glow green #3a883a, dark grey #525860, deep blue dark #0d223f, coral orange dark #af590e, deep blue light #2e67b8, coral orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `seaRegion` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Sea region" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 2.85 m tall overall, with the tallest stipe at 2.4 m and the apical blade above it. The footprint is about 1.33 m along X by 0.79 m along Z. That is a believable single plant for a kelp-forest tank seen from a walk-through tunnel. The holdfast is 0.3 m across and is centred on the origin. The model rests exactly on y = 0 and its front faces +Z. Under the default current the canopy leans toward +X, so the bounding box is not centred on the origin; the base is. The exported model has 3,310 triangles in 4 meshes and is static, with no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour; 4 of the 12 are used. The blade material is double-sided (glTF doubleSided), because the blades are single folded sheets. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. seaRegion (the kit's 'Sea region') goes from a sheltered bay at 0 (upright stipes, broad ruffled blades) to an exposed open coast at 1 (stipes and longer, narrower blades streaming with the current toward +X). Both extremes were rendered and passed three-check: all-min params give 1,810 triangles and all-max give 5,710. The form uses a fixed seed (7). glb-lint: 0 errors and 3 heuristic warnings. These cover non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat shading), bladders and blades flagged as detached (they are seated on the stipes by design), and a height above the 1 m reference (real-world scale). Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no host requirements contract was supplied. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphen in the slug-based ids this library requires; three-check accepts them and all 5 survive the GLB reload.

About the Kelp 3D model

Kelp is a free low-poly 3D model from the Aquarium set. It measures 1.3 m × 2.8 m × 79 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 3,310 triangles across 4 meshes, with 5 named parts. Download the 237 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Kelp 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 237 KB: 3,310 triangles, 9,930 vertices and 4 materials, modelled in metres at 1.3 m × 2.8 m × 79 cm.
Can I animate Kelp?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 5 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Kelp 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
