How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

A 1920s mainline steam locomotive with its coal tender, at real scale (about 21 m long overall), as a polished hero model on a short section of track. Locomotive: a long cylindrical boiler with polished brass bands and rows of rivets, a tall flared smokestack, a sand dome and steam dome, a brass bell and whistle, handrails on stanchions along the boiler, a smokebox door with hinges and a round number-plate disc (blank, no text), a headlamp, a cow-catcher pilot at the front, two cylinders with valve chests, and the full Walschaerts valve gear (main rods, coupling rods, crossheads, radius rod) linking three pairs of large spoked driving wheels with counterweights, plus the leading and trailing trucks with smaller spoked wheels. The cab has windows with frames, a curved roof, steps and grab rails. The tender carries a heaped coal load, has riveted side panels and sits on two bogies. Track: sleepers, rails with tie plates, ballast. Paint: deep green boiler and tender with thin gold lining, black smokebox, chimney and running gear, red buffer beam and wheel rims, polished brass fittings, grey ballast — all named materials. No text, numbers, logos or lettering. Motion: a seamless 4 s baked loop — all wheels turn and the valve gear and coupling rods move correctly with them (pivots exactly on the crank pins), and a puff of steam rises from the chimney; the locomotive itself stays in place on the track. Hard requirement: the exported GLB must contain AT LEAST 100,000 triangles (target 120,000–200,000) — measure it before delivering. Spend the budget on modelled detail (rivets, spokes, valve gear, handrails, bevels), never on invisible subdivision. Keep the GLB under 20 MB: index geometry, instance repeated parts (rivets, spokes, sleepers), no image textures.
