Kelp field tiles

A seamless 4 x 4 m low-poly sea-floor tile: a small kelp forest of tall aqua stalks with yellow float bladders and dark holdfasts, leaning with the current over rippled pale sand, with boulders, pebbles, seagrass tufts and starfish.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Kelp field tiles for the Underwater Research Dome kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. Make it a ground piece on an exact 4 × 4 m footprint with flat edges at y = 0 that tile seamlessly with its neighbours in every direction; origin at the tile centre. This is one part of the Underwater Research Dome kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A science base on the sea floor. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: deep blue #1b447e, aqua #47d1d1, yellow #eecd2b, white #f4f1ec, deep blue dark #0d223f, aqua dark #29a3a3, deep blue light #2e67b8, aqua light #88dddd, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `depthAndLight` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Depth and light" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: exact 4 x 4 m footprint, sand bed 0.03-0.12 m thick with flat vertical edges on y = 0, kelp up to 2.79 m tall at default settings (kelpHeight 2.5 m); origin at the tile centre, front faces +Z, 6202 triangles. Sand heights are period-4 in x and z, so copies tile seamlessly in every direction; every plant, rock and tuft stays inside the footprint. All tiles lean the same way (current flows toward +X), so a tiled field reads continuous. depthAndLight follows the kit convention (0 shallow and sunlit, 1 deep and dark): deeper means shorter kelp, more dark blades and a faint emissive glow on the yellow bladders (exported as emissive). Changing kelpCount or kelpHeight re-seeds the layout. Part ids use the hyphen-free root 'kelpfieldtiles' because the kit's id format does not allow hyphens. The GLB carries 8 palette colours; the exporter writes one material copy per mesh, so 'aqua dark' and 'yellow' appear more than once with identical names and values. Kelp blades and the sand bed are double-sided. glb-lint verdict: 0 errors, 5 heuristic warnings (non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, duplicate same-name materials, kelp parts not touching sibling groups, height vs 1 m reference, 11 material slots vs a soft limit of 10), all reviewed.
