Cave shelter

A low-poly Stone Age rock shelter: a banded charcoal cliff with a low arched mouth half-closed by a hide curtain on a pole lintel, a packed-earth floor with a stone-ringed fire, a woodpile, a hide stretched on a drying rack, and a rock hill behind capped with moss or snow.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Cave shelter for the Stone Age Camp kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Stone Age Camp kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Hide tents at the edge of the ice. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: hide tan #bf9769, ochre #bd8728, charcoal #34383d, moss #55743e, hide tan dark #9a7142, ochre dark #7e5a1b, hide tan light #d2bca2, ochre light #d6a95c, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `climateIceOrForest` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Climate (ice or forest)" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 15.7 m wide, 16.8 m deep and 8.11 m tall overall; the rock hill tops out at 7.5 m and the moss clumps on it reach 8.11 m. The cave mouth is 5 m wide and 3.4 m tall and faces +Z; the hide curtain hangs from a pole lintel at about 2.5 m. The origin is the bottom centre of the footprint, and the model rests on y = 0. The GLB has 2,390 triangles in 22 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). The throat is a solid soot-black plug about 2.6 m inside the mouth, so it is a facade entrance, not a walkable cave. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour and all 12 kit colours are used; the exporter writes one material per mesh, so one colour name can appear on several materials — recolour by name. The flames carry a mild emissive in their own colour. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. climateIceOrForest (the kit's 'Climate (ice or forest)') swaps the caprock between snow (below 0.5) and moss with clumps (0.5 and up), and trades snow drifts for moss clumps on the ledge and at the cliff foot (all snow at 0, all moss at 1); it only swaps palette colours and lumps, never the rock or camp props. cliffHeight scales the strata; mouthWidth widens the face to keep at least 3.2 m of rock either side; mouthHeight is capped so at least 1.1 m of rock stays above the vault. glb-lint: 0 errors; its warnings are expected here (per-mesh duplicate materials, deliberately unindexed flat shading, rock tiers embedded on purpose, and a scale check against the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes, and three-check accepts the ids. Fix round 1 (visual): lowered exposure so grey rock stops washing white, enlarged the hearth and fire, darkened and shrank the scree wedges, and turned the drying rack toward the hero view.

About the Cave shelter 3D model

Cave shelter is a free low-poly 3D model from the Stone Age Camp set. It measures 16 m × 8.1 m × 17 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,390 triangles across 22 meshes, with 11 named parts. Download the 188 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Cave shelter 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 188 KB: 2,390 triangles, 7,170 vertices and 22 materials, modelled in metres at 16 m × 8.1 m × 17 m.
Can I animate Cave shelter?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 11 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Cave shelter 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
