Wind spires

A low-poly 12 m wind spire for a solarpunk city: a three-blade helical vertical-axis rotor on a slim white mast, rising from a hexagonal terracotta planter whose vines climb a timber trellis, topped by a planted crown and a sky-blue glass beacon.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Wind spires for the Solarpunk Garden City kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Solarpunk Garden City kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A green city of glass and vines. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: leaf green #3a883a, white #f4f1ec, terracotta #be5937, sky blue #2e67b8, leaf green dark #235223, white dark #d7cebc, leaf green light #5db15d, white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `plantCoverage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Plant coverage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 12.0 m tall (12.02 m to the lightning-rod tip). The footing is 2.9 m across and the rotor is about 2.7 m across at its widest. The origin is the bottom centre of the footing, which rests on y = 0, and the planter's service hatch faces +Z. The GLB has 2,296 triangles in 24 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. The asset is static, but the rotor is its own node centred on the Y axis, so an engine can spin it about Y. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and all 12 colours are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name can appear on several materials: recolour by name. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. plantCoverage (the kit's 'Plant coverage') fills the planter and crown and lengthens the vines over the rim. It also sets how high the climbers reach on the trellis. height scales the mast and rotor from 8 to 16 m, blades sets 2–5 rotor blades, and bladeTwist sets the helix from a straight 0° to a 180° twist. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings. Two cover the material count and both come from the per-mesh materials. One flags overlaps where the soil, coping and hubs are deliberately nested. The last compares the height with the direction's 1 m reference. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. three-check accepts those ids, and all 7 survive the GLB reload.

About the Wind spires 3D model

Wind spires is a free low-poly 3D model from the Solarpunk Garden City set. It measures 2.9 m × 12 m × 2.6 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,296 triangles across 24 meshes, with 7 named parts. Download the 161 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Wind spires 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 161 KB: 2,296 triangles, 5,216 vertices and 24 materials, modelled in metres at 2.9 m × 12 m × 2.6 m.
Can I animate Wind spires?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 7 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Wind spires 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
