Rooftop farms

A low-poly farmed rooftop for a solarpunk city. A 12 × 9 m roof deck holds raised crop beds, a gabled glass greenhouse, a vine-covered timber pergola, a rain-water tank, a solar array and potted fruit trees, all ringed by a parapet with greenery spilling over the edge.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Rooftop farms for the Solarpunk Garden City kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Solarpunk Garden City kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A green city of glass and vines. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: leaf green #3a883a, white #f4f1ec, terracotta #be5937, sky blue #2e67b8, leaf green dark #235223, white dark #d7cebc, leaf green light #5db15d, white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `plantCoverage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Plant coverage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: a 12 × 9 m roof deck. The concrete slab is 0.4 m thick, the parapet stands 0.65 m above the deck, the greenhouse ridge is 3.55 m above the base, and vine curtains overhang the parapet by about 0.2 m. The origin is the bottom centre of the slab, which rests on y = 0, and the front parapet faces +Z, so the piece can sit on a kit building's top floor. The GLB has 6,384 triangles across 41 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and all 12 colours are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name can appear on several materials: recolour by name. The greenhouse glass is a second 'sky blue' material at 55% opacity (alpha blend), so the benches inside stay visible. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. plantCoverage (the kit's 'Plant coverage') grows the crops from seedlings to full rows and fills the pergola vine canopy. It also lengthens the post drapes, enlarges the tree canopies and adds blossom, and adds more and longer vine curtains over the parapet. beds sets 2–4 crop beds, and solarPanels sets 2–6 panels. glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 heuristic warnings. Two cover the material count and both come from the per-mesh materials. One flags overlaps where the membrane, coping and trim are deliberately nested in the slab and parapet. The last compares the height with the direction's 1 m reference. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. three-check accepts those ids, and all 8 survive the GLB reload. The 390×844 portrait hero is tighter; the 1280×800 hero is the delivered preview.

About the Rooftop farms 3D model

Rooftop farms is a free low-poly 3D model from the Solarpunk Garden City set. It measures 12 m × 3.5 m × 9.2 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 6,384 triangles across 41 meshes, with 8 named parts. Download the 449 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Rooftop farms 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 449 KB: 6,384 triangles, 15,794 vertices and 41 materials, modelled in metres at 12 m × 3.5 m × 9.2 m.
Can I animate Rooftop farms?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 8 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Rooftop farms 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
