Gantry cranes

A low-poly ship-to-shore container gantry crane: four blue portal legs on rail bogies, a tall A-frame with stays, a long white boom reaching out over the water, and a yellow trolley lowering a container on its spreader.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Gantry cranes for the Shipping Port kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Shipping Port kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Containers, cranes and salt air. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: container colours #988e81, steel grey #757e8a, sea blue #2e67b8, yellow #eecd2b, container colours dark #70685c, steel grey dark #525860, container colours light #b6b3af, steel grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `containerColoursAndLogos` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Container colours and logos" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

  • Trolley and operator cab
  • Spreader and hoist ropes
  • Hanging container

Note: Size: 68.9 m from the rail to the top of the A-frame; the boom girders sit at 40-43.4 m. The footprint is 24.9 m wide along the rail (x) and 91.1 m long (z): 30 m rail gauge between the sea and land legs, 45 m boom outreach past the sea legs and 16 m backreach behind the land legs. The boom faces +Z (the sea side), the origin is at the bottom centre of the bounding box and the wheels rest on y = 0. The GLB has 2,036 triangles in 26 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed), so the facets survive in any engine. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. 9 of the 12 kit colours are used by default; container colours light appears at low containerColoursAndLogos values, and steel grey light and dark wood are not used. The boom girders are deeper than a real crane's (3.4 m) so the boom reads at thumbnail size. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. containerColoursAndLogos (the kit's 'Container colours and logos') picks the hanging container's tone (light / container colours / dark as the value rises) and widens a plain sea-blue band on its long sides (no band at 0, 4.2 m at 1). It is a colour block, not a logo or text. boomOutreach (30-55 m) and boomHeight (32-48 m) resize the boom and the whole portal. trolleyPosition (0-1) slides the trolley, cab, spreader and container from the backreach to the boom tip. All-min and all-max settings pass three-check and stay far under the 10,000-triangle budget. At trolleyPosition values that line up with a forestay bracket, the cab hanger plate can touch the bracket. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings. Material count and duplicate materials come from the per-mesh materials. Unindexed geometry is deliberate flat shading. Sibling overlap comes from embedded joints (bogies, hinges, ties). Scale compares the height with the direction's 1 m reference. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 9 survive the GLB reload. No quay, rails or ship are included; those are separate kit parts.

About the Gantry cranes 3D model

Gantry cranes is a free low-poly 3D model from the Shipping Port set. It measures 25 m × 69 m × 91 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,036 triangles across 26 meshes, with 9 named parts. Download the 165 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Gantry cranes 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 165 KB: 2,036 triangles, 6,108 vertices and 26 materials, modelled in metres at 25 m × 69 m × 91 m.
Can I animate Gantry cranes?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 9 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Gantry cranes 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
