Rock outcrop

A low-poly savanna granite kopje: a broad rock dome bedded in the grass with a pile of rounded boulders on top, one boulder balanced on the summit, loose boulders at the foot, grass tufts in the cracks and a small shrub growing from a crevice.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Rock outcrop for the Savanna kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Savanna kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Golden grass and big animals. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: straw gold #d0a225, acacia green #3a883a, earth red #c32222, dusk purple #572e6b, straw gold dark #8f7019, acacia green dark #235223, straw gold light #debd63, acacia green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `dryOrWetSeason` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Dry or wet season" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the granite dome is about 7.5 × 6 m and 1.5 m high; the boulder pile and the balancing rock on top take the outcrop to 5.59 m. With the loose boulders the whole piece covers 10.4 × 8.4 m. Front faces +Z, the origin is the bottom centre of the footprint, and everything rests on y = 0 (min y 0.000). The GLB has 1,508 triangles in 13 meshes (one per part and colour) and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed), so the facets survive in any engine. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; the exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same name appears on several materials. Recolour by name. At the default, 7 of the 12 kit colours are used. Every stacked boulder is dropped onto the rock below it and seated about a third of its height deep, so nothing floats. dryOrWetSeason (the kit's 'Dry or wet season') only swaps palette colours. Grass steps from straw gold light through straw gold to acacia green. The shrub goes from straw gold dark / acacia green dark (dry) to acacia green / acacia green light (wet). Above 0.66 the loose boulders' wet foot turns soot black. scale (0.7–1.4) scales the whole outcrop; looseBoulders (0–9) and grassTufts (0–16) set counts. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. The straw-coloured ground disc and exposure 0.72 are viewer staging and are not in the GLB. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its warnings are heuristic: per-mesh duplicate materials, deliberate non-indexed flat shading, boulders intentionally seated into the dome, and height vs the direction's 1 m reference. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 7 survive the GLB reload. Fix rounds: (1) stacked boulders touched at a single vertex and read as floating, so they are now seated by a share of their height. The disc was recoloured and exposure lowered because the granite washed out to white. (2) The dome was raised and kept one grey, because bleached and stained bands painted large wedges. (3) Up-facing facets folded flat onto y = 0 were dropped (they z-fought the ground), and the hero was framed tighter.

About the Rock outcrop 3D model

Rock outcrop is a free low-poly 3D model from the Savanna set. It measures 10 m × 5.6 m × 8.4 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,508 triangles across 13 meshes, with 7 named parts. Download the 118 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Rock outcrop 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 118 KB: 1,508 triangles, 4,524 vertices and 13 materials, modelled in metres at 10 m × 5.6 m × 8.4 m.
Can I animate Rock outcrop?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 7 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Rock outcrop 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
