Welding sparks

A low-poly seam-welding prop for an orbital shipyard: a gantry torch fuses two upright hull-plate coupons in a jig while a fan of faceted orange spark arcs bursts from the weld point and rains onto the deck in small bounce splashes.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Welding sparks for the Orbital Shipyard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Orbital Shipyard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ships under construction in open space. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, orange #ed7e1d, deep space blue #1b447e, silver #b9bfc6, white dark #d7cebc, orange dark #af590e, white light #f9f8f6, orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `shipCompletionStage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Ship completion stage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Physical size: 1.1 m wide x 0.9 m deep x 0.89 m tall. Origin is at the bottom centre of the jig deck, resting on y = 0, front (spark spray) faces +Z. The sparks are a frozen long-exposure fan: every arc is one continuous tapered streak from the weld point that either lands on the deck (with a spatter mark and a two-hop bounce splash) or tapers out in the air. None of them leave the deck footprint and none are detached, and the whole spray is its own part (orbital-shipyard-welding-sparks.sparks) if you only want the sparks. shipCompletionStage is weld progress up the seam: 0 = weld just started at the foot, 1 = it has reached the top. The bead, the torch carriage and the spark burst all follow it. sparkCount, sparkReach and sparkSeed remix the spray deterministically. Params are applied at build time in the viewer; the GLB is the default configuration. Static model, 2772 triangles, no animation clip. White light and orange light materials carry an emissive factor so the sparks read hot without bloom. Each node carries two part ids: the library id (orbital-shipyard-welding-sparks.*) on the outer group and the plan id (weldsparks.*) on the inner one. Material names are exact kit palette names (10 colours; warm white and dark wood are unused). The exporter writes one material copy per mesh, so the GLB lists 23 materials with repeated names. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 non-blocking heuristic warnings (material count/duplicates from that per-mesh copy, intentional non-indexed flat-shaded facets, nested meshes in plates/clamps/torch, and wrapper groups flagged as detached). Its overall verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied.
