Cable reels

A low-poly shipyard cable reel stand: two big orange-rimmed cable drums on one axle in a deep-blue A-frame skid, driven by a white gear motor. Each drum pays a black power lead over a front fairlead roller down to an orange plug on the deck. Part of the Orbital Shipyard kit.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Cable reels for the Orbital Shipyard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Orbital Shipyard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ships under construction in open space. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, orange #ed7e1d, deep space blue #1b447e, silver #b9bfc6, white dark #d7cebc, orange dark #af590e, white light #f9f8f6, orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `shipCompletionStage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Ship completion stage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at default params: 3.48 m wide (X) x 2.25 m tall x 2.66 m deep (Z), with reels 1.8 m across and 0.9 m of cable width each. Origin is at the bottom centre; the skid feet, cable leads and plugs rest on y = 0. The plugs and fairlead face +Z (front) and the gear-motor sits on the +X side. shipCompletionStage is the fraction of cable paid out to the ship: at 0 the drums are full, at 1 a single layer is left. The wound pack shrinks and the leads re-route from the new pack radius over the roller to the plugs. reelCount (1-3) changes the axle span and skid width; reelDiameter (1.4-2.2 m) raises the axle and scales the flanges. Static model with no animation clip. Each part node carries two part ids: the library id (orbital-shipyard-cable-reels.*) on the outer group and the kit plan id (cablereels.*) on the inner group, because the kit's plan checker does not allow hyphens in ids. Material names are the exact kit palette names (7 colours used). The exporter writes one material copy per mesh, so names repeat in the GLB material list. Facets are non-indexed with baked flat normals, so the model looks faceted in any engine. 4052 triangles at default; about 5850 at the maximum (3 reels). glb-lint: 0 errors. The overall verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. There are 6 non-blocking heuristic warnings: per-mesh material copies, intentionally non-indexed flat facets, flange discs nested inside their rim bands, the roller passing through its posts, parts flagged as detached because they touch only through other parts, and height compared against a 1 m reference.
