Half-built frigate

A 30 m low-poly frigate half-way through construction on an orbital slipway: the stern is plated in white and deep-blue livery, the bow is still a bare silver rib cage showing the reactor and decks inside. A welding arm works the bow while the turret and bridge radar run through an 8 second test loop.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Half-built frigate for the Orbital Shipyard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Orbital Shipyard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ships under construction in open space. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, orange #ed7e1d, deep space blue #1b447e, silver #b9bfc6, white dark #d7cebc, orange dark #af590e, white light #f9f8f6, orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `shipCompletionStage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Ship completion stage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Physical size at default params: 30 m long (whole metres for the 1 m grid) x 12.31 m tall x 11.55 m wide (x -3.3 to +8.25 m; the extra width on +X is the welding arm's outrigger). The hull is 6 m across the flats, the same as the kit's Hull sections. Snapping end and origin: the stern. The engine-bell exits and the slipway rail ends lie on z = 0, the origin sits at the bottom centre of that end on the hull centreline, the model rests on y = 0, and the bow points +Z to z = 30. The slipway rails run the full 30 m, so pieces chain end to end. Motion: a seamless 8 s baked clip named scene-motion. The turret yaws on its ring, the guns elevate on their trunnion, the radar turns on its mast axle, and the welding arm (swivel, shoulder pin, elbow pin, solved by two-link IK) traces the bow rib seam. Only those six pivot nodes rotate; their translations are constant and the slipway, cradles, pedestal and hull never move. shipCompletionStage lays hull plates bay by bay from the stern, keel first (0 = bare ribs and longerons, 1 = fully plated). The last 4 plates laid show orange-light primer. The dorsal deck carrying the bridge and turret is always laid. The GLB is a snapshot at the default values (stage 0.5, 2 bridge decks, 1 turret, 1 radar turn per loop); the other params change the model only in the viewer. 3860 triangles. Each node carries two part ids: the library id (orbital-shipyard-half-built-frigate.*) on the outer group and a short plan id (frigate.*) on the inner one, because the kit's plan checker only accepts unhyphenated part ids. Animation tracks target the inner frigate.* pivot nodes. Material names are the exact kit palette names (11 colours; dark wood is unused). The exporter writes one material copy per mesh, so the GLB lists 42 materials with repeated names. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 non-blocking heuristic warnings (material count/duplicates from the per-mesh copies, intentional non-indexed flat-shaded facets, sibling-box overlap from nested and deliberately embedded parts such as the bridge and turret ring set into the deck, detached-part flags on the dorsal deck, nose cap, radar and turret ring (each rests on geometry in a different part group, e.g. the deck plates sit between the ribs, so the sibling-only heuristic sees no contact), and height vs a 1 m reference). Its overall verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied.
