Habitat ring

An 18 m low-poly spin-gravity habitat ring under construction for an orbital shipyard: white window modules plate the lower half of a faceted rim, the upper arc is still bare orange rib frame, and four spokes join it to a central docking hub. It stands upright in a small assembly cradle.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Habitat ring for the Orbital Shipyard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Orbital Shipyard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ships under construction in open space. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, orange #ed7e1d, deep space blue #1b447e, silver #b9bfc6, white dark #d7cebc, orange dark #af590e, white light #f9f8f6, orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `shipCompletionStage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Ship completion stage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Physical size at default params: 18.2 m wide (ring outer diameter 18 m plus 0.1 m joint collars), 18.65 m tall including the 0.45 m cradle sled, 7.1 m deep along the hub axis. The rim section is 3.0 x 3.2 m. Origin is at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0, and the hub axis points to the front (+Z). shipCompletionStage plates the 24 rim segments from the cradle upward, alternating sides (0 = bare orange rib frame with silver stringers and grey keel plates, 1 = closed ring of white window modules). Every joint always carries a collar or a rib, so the rim is a closed loop at every stage. Spokes snap to rim joints so each one lands on a junction; with 5 spokes the spacing is therefore slightly uneven. Static model with no animation clip. The cradle is an assembly stand that gives the ring its ground contact; delete the cradle node if you want a free-floating ring. Each part node carries two part ids: the library id (orbital-shipyard-habitat-ring.*) on the outer group and the plan id (habitatring.*) on the inner one. Material names are the exact kit palette names (9 colours used). The exporter writes one material copy per mesh, so the GLB lists 14 materials with repeated names. Facets are non-indexed with baked flat normals, so the model looks faceted in any engine. 3540 triangles. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 non-blocking heuristic warnings (the per-mesh material copies and duplicates, intentionally non-indexed flat facets, nested hub parts overlapping, rim sub-parts flagged as detached because they touch their neighbours only through other parts, and height compared against a 1 m reference).
