Docking arms

A 4 x 4 m low-poly docking bay tile for an orbital shipyard: two pairs of rail-mounted orange robot arms clamp a small-craft pod in mid-air, its white plating half closed over silver ribs. The arm rails run edge to edge so tiles chain with the rest of the shipyard kit.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Docking arms for the Orbital Shipyard kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. Make it a ground piece on an exact 4 × 4 m footprint with flat edges at y = 0 that tile seamlessly with its neighbours in every direction; origin at the tile centre. This is one part of the Orbital Shipyard kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Ships under construction in open space. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, orange #ed7e1d, deep space blue #1b447e, silver #b9bfc6, white dark #d7cebc, orange dark #af590e, white light #f9f8f6, orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `shipCompletionStage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Ship completion stage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Physical size: 4 x 4 m footprint, 2.51 m tall at the default clamp height; the held pod is 1.07 m across the flats and 3.11 m long overall (2.2 m body plus nose and nozzle). Origin is at the tile centre, resting on y = 0, front (pod nose) faces +Z. Deck edges are flat and vertical; plate seams are inset 3 cm on every edge, and only the two arm rails cross the boundary, at x = +/-1.55 m on both Z edges (the same rail line as the kit's dry dock frame). Nothing overhangs the footprint. shipCompletionStage closes the pod plating from the stern forward, keel-up within each ring (0 = bare ribs and longerons, 1 = fully plated); the blue flank strongbacks the clamps grip are always present. The arms are re-solved for clampHeight so each clamp pad stays seated on the pod flank. Static model, 2504 triangles, no animation clip. Each node carries two part ids: the library id (orbital-shipyard-docking-arms.*) on the outer group and the plan id (dockarms.*) on the inner one. Material names are the exact kit palette names (11 colours; dark wood is unused); the exporter writes one material copy per mesh, so the GLB lists 26 materials with repeated names. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 non-blocking heuristic warnings (material count/duplicates from that per-mesh copy, intentional non-indexed flat-shaded facets, nested meshes in the turrets and clamps, wrapper groups flagged as detached, and height vs a 1 m reference); its overall verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied.
