Mã Pí Lèng – Sông Nho Quế – Hẻm Tu Sản, Hà Giang

A tabletop cross-section diorama of Tu Sản Canyon in Hà Giang: sheer streaked limestone walls drop to the jade Nho Quế River, with a long-tail boat on the water. The Mã Pí Lèng road, with its parapet, hairpins and lookout, runs along the cliff top above maize terraces and a small Hmong village.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Mã Pí Lèng Pass, the Nho Quế River and Tu Sản Canyon as a dramatic cross-section diorama. Sheer grey limestone canyon walls (Tu Sản, among the deepest canyons in Southeast Asia) plunge to a narrow, emerald-jade river (Nho Quế) that snakes along the bottom; high on the cliff edge the mountain road is cut into the rock with switchbacks, a low stone parapet and a lookout point; terraces of maize cling to the slopes and mist hangs in the gorge. A small long-tail boat on the river. Loop (12 s): the boat glides along the river and the water surface flows. Make it a polished, elegant model in the stylised-PBR direction: clean proportions, smooth curvature, soft bevels on every edge, crisp silhouettes and a restrained palette of named materials (name each material for what it is, e.g. "limestone", "red lacquer", "glazed roof tile", "sea water"); every material in the exported GLB must carry that name — set `material.name` on each one, because an unnamed material fails review. It must be recognisable at a glance as the real place. No text, lettering, logos or signage anywhere. Reference photos of the real place are in `reference/` (ref1.jpg, ref2.jpg, ref3.jpg): open and study them before planning if you can view images, and compare your hero capture with them before delivering. Natural sites and large complexes are presented as a tabletop diorama on a clean rounded plinth with slate-grey sides; state the real-world scale and the diorama scale in meta.notes. Hard requirement: the exported GLB must contain AT LEAST 150,000 triangles (target 200,000–350,000) — measure it before delivering. Spend the budget on real modelled detail (roof tiles, carvings, railings, mouldings, rock strata, foliage clusters, water surface, boats), never on invisible subdivision. Keep the GLB under 25 MB: index all geometry, instance repeated parts, no image textures.

Note: Real-world scale: the block shows about 2.4 km × 1.8 km of Tu Sản Canyon, about 700–900 m deep. Diorama scale: about 1:2000 horizontally, on a 1.30 × 1.00 m slate plinth, 0.667 m tall overall. Relief follows canyonDepth (1.0 = 1:2000). The road, parapet, lookout, houses and the long-tail boat are enlarged about 3× so they read at diorama scale. The model is 331,745 triangles, all indexed, with no textures and no text or signage. It has 24 named materials. The runtime clones a material per mesh on export, so the GLB holds 56 material entries with duplicate names (e.g. 22 "river foam" entries for the 22 animated ripples). Repeated parts (trees, maize tufts, posts, puffs) are merged into shared meshes rather than GPU-instanced, so the file needs no required glTF extension (only KHR_materials_clearcoat is used). Loop clip "scene-motion" (12 s, seamless, baked transforms): the boat glides upriver and back, flow ripples drift downstream and mist banks breathe. The water surface itself is static geometry. Part ids use the root "mapileng" because the kit’s part-id rule allows no hyphens. mistAmount sets the number and opacity of mist banks (2 at the default). glb-lint: 0 errors, 6 warnings (triangle and material counts above the direction defaults, which the brief asks for; duplicate cloned materials; overlapping sibling boxes; mist banks that float by design; scale heuristic). Its verdict prints UNVERIFIED because no requirements contract was supplied.
