How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

A realistic full-body 3D character: an Irish woman in her early 80s, small and slightly stooped, 154 cm tall. Bright green-grey eyes, very fair skin with deep wrinkles, age spots, rosy cheeks and visible pores. Soft white curly hair set short, modelled as hair cards. Clothing: a cream cable-knit cardigan over a lilac floral blouse, a tweed A-line skirt below the knee, thick skin-tone stockings, sensible black lace-up shoes, a single pearl necklace, and a wooden walking cane held in the right hand. Pose: neutral A-pose, arms at 45 degrees, fingers slightly spread, feet shoulder-width apart, neutral facial expression, mouth closed. Technical: 120,000 to 150,000 triangles total, with density concentrated in the face, hands and clothing folds. Clean quad-dominant topology with edge loops around the eyes, mouth, shoulders, elbows, knees and fingers so it deforms well when rigged. Separate meshes for body, eyes, teeth, hair and each clothing layer. Real-world scale in metres, origin at ground level between the feet. PBR textures at 4K: base colour, normal, roughness, metallic, ambient occlusion. No baked lighting or shadows in the base colour. No logos, brand names or readable text anywhere.

Note: Triangles: 149,168 total, measured on the exported GLB (body 62,288 incl. face and hands; cardigan 25,368; hair cards 14,368; necklace 9,480; stockings 8,704; blouse 8,068; skirt 5,280; shoes 3,672; laces 3,008; eyes 2,944; teeth+gums 1,824; cane 1,764; buttons 1,440; corneas 960). Base meshes are 96% quads before export triangulation, with edge loops at the eyes, mouth, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and every finger joint. Scale is metres, +Y up, facing +Z, origin between the feet, soles on y = 0. Stature is 1.54 m; the bounding box reaches 1.598 m because of the curl volume. Textures: every map is procedural (seeded noise, no images). They were authored at 4096x4096 in dist/textures-4k/<set>_{basecolor,normal,roughness,metallic,ao}.png for 12 sets (60 files); the buttons share the cardigan set and the corneas are untextured transmissive. The GLB embeds 2048x2048 copies: JPEG, plus one PNG for the alpha-tested hair, with AO/roughness/metal packed as ORM. dist/model.glb is about 21.6 MB. Metallic maps are flat black, since no material is metal (pearls are nacre). Base colour holds pigment only; AO lives in its own map. Limits, stated honestly: this is a procedural sculpt (SDF plus subdivided cage), not scan fidelity, so the face reads as an elderly woman but stylised rather than photoreal. The hair is static alpha-tested ribbon cards over a scalp cap, which read as tight set curls up close but somewhat card-like. Cloth folds are sculpted, not simulated. The right hand is closed around the cane crook rather than 'slightly spread' (the cane needs a grip), and its fist is coarser than the open left hand. No rig, skin weights, blendshapes or animation are delivered, only rig-ready topology. glb-lint reports 0 errors, with warnings only for the triangle and material counts (above the mannequin-figure base direction's defaults; both declared as direction3d_overrides in design-plan.md) and for nested sibling bounds (eyes, teeth and clothing sit inside the body by design).

About the Grandmother 3D model

Grandmother is a free realistic 3D model from the Characters set. It measures 1.2 m × 1.6 m × 40 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 149,168 triangles across 14 meshes, with 15 named parts. Download the 20.6 MB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Grandmother 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 20.6 MB: 149,168 triangles, 90,954 vertices and 14 materials, modelled in metres at 1.2 m × 1.6 m × 40 cm.
Can I animate Grandmother?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 15 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Grandmother 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
