Spoon catapult

A wheeled timber catapult whose throwing arm is a giant's steel tablespoon, loaded with a cherry tomato and wound down by a rope winch. In a 6-second loop it fires into a striped tea-towel crossbar, bounces, and is cranked back to the cocked position.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Spoon catapult for the Giant's Kitchen kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Giant's Kitchen kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Tiny people on a huge table. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: wood brown #6b4a2e, enamel white #f4f1ec, copper #b8602e, tomato red #c32222, wood brown dark #362517, enamel white dark #d7cebc, wood brown light #9b704b, enamel white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `scaleRatio` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Scale ratio" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 1.42 m wide (including the outboard winch crank) x 1.84 m tall x 2.43 m long when cocked. The spoon is a giant's tablespoon 1.8 m long, so a tiny kitchen person stands about as tall as the posts. Fired, the bowl rises to about 2.6 m. Units are metres, +Y is up, it fires toward +Z, and the origin is at the bottom centre of the base frame with the wheels resting exactly on y = 0. Materials: ten, each named exactly for the Giant's Kitchen palette colour it uses ('wood brown', 'wood brown light', 'wood brown dark', 'dark wood', 'mid grey', 'copper', 'enamel white', 'tomato red', 'warm white', 'soot black'). The role is stored in material extras. Animation: one 6 s clip, 'scene-motion', with tracks on three nodes only. 'spoonArm' rotates about the pivot axle centreline. 'winch' rotates about the drum axle, by exactly the rope paid out divided by the 0.07 m drum radius. 'winchRope' swivels and stretches (Y scale) from its anchor on the drum to the eye under the spoon. The frame, wheels, posts, crossbar and axle never move. The cycle: the catapult holds cocked for about 2 s, releases, slams into the pad with two damped bounces, holds, then is winched back down. The start and end frames are identical, and the file's static pose is the cocked rest pose. The tomato rides in the bowl and is not launched; it is a separate part, so you can hide it or animate it yourself. Flat shading is baked into the meshes as hard normals, not left as a material flag, so the facets survive in Blender, Godot and Unity. Part ids use the prefix 'spooncatapult' because the kit's plan schema does not allow hyphens in the first id segment. Params rebuild the geometry. scaleRatio is the kit's shared 'Scale ratio' knob and sets the spoon's size against the frame (0 = dessert spoon, about 1.4 m; 1 = serving spoon, about 2.1 m), and the frame, winch and crossbar follow it. launchAngle moves the crossbar and changes where the arm stops. trackWidth sets the rail spacing. Triangle count is 1372. glb-lint reports 0 errors and two heuristic warnings, both checked in the captures. First, nested siblings: wheel axles through the frame, hubs inside the wheels, the pivot axle through its bearings — all deliberate. Second, the rope line has no sibling in its swivel group, though it does meet the drum and the spoon's rope eye.
