Shelf cliffs

A seamless 4 × 4 m low-poly ground tile: a giant's plank tabletop with a three-tier cliff built like stacked shelves. It has faceted brown strata walls, overhanging shelf-board ledges on copper brackets, a sugar-cube staircase, a mouse-hole burrow and a red spice tin on the summit.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Shelf cliffs for the Giant's Kitchen kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. Make it a ground piece on an exact 4 × 4 m footprint with flat edges at y = 0 that tile seamlessly with its neighbours in every direction; origin at the tile centre. This is one part of the Giant's Kitchen kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Tiny people on a huge table. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: wood brown #6b4a2e, enamel white #f4f1ec, copper #b8602e, tomato red #c32222, wood brown dark #362517, enamel white dark #d7cebc, wood brown light #9b704b, enamel white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `scaleRatio` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Scale ratio" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at default params: an exact 4 × 4 m footprint, 2.40 m tall to the top of the spice tin (the summit ledge is at 1.92 m). The tabletop deck is 0.12 m thick, each cliff tier rises 0.60 m (a giant's shelf spacing, about 10× real kitchen shelving) and each sugar cube is 0.20 m. Units are metres, +Y is up, the front faces +Z, and the origin is the tile centre on the bottom face, which rests on y = 0. Tiling was checked numerically against the exported GLB: bounds are exactly x, z ∈ [-2, 2] and every vertex on an x = ±2 or z = ±2 face has a twin on the opposite face, so copies placed 4 m apart butt together with no gap, overlap or z-fighting. The 0.5 m plank pitch divides the tile, so plank seams continue into neighbours. Only the deck reaches the tile edge; the cliff, stairs and scree stay inside it. Part ids use the root 'shelfcliffs' rather than the full slug because the kit's part-id grammar does not allow hyphens. The tile uses nine kit colours, with one material per colour named exactly by that colour. The exporter clones a material per mesh, so the GLB lists 19 material entries, all carrying those nine names. Flat shading is baked into the geometry as per-face normals (non-indexed), so the facets look the same in any engine. Static piece: no animation clip, and evaluatePose is a no-op. Params rebuild the geometry in the viewer, but the GLB is baked at the defaults. scaleRatio is the kit's 'Scale ratio' knob. Because the footprint is fixed by the tile grid, it scales the giant's furniture vertically (tier rise, board thickness, brackets, sugar cubes, tin) from 0.6× at 0 to 1.4× at 1, while the deck stays 0.12 m so neighbouring tiles always meet flush. tiers sets 2–4 levels; part ids tier_1…tier_n follow the count. ledgeOverhang is how far each shelf board sticks out past its wall. seed re-chips the cliff outlines. Each extreme combination was rebuilt and re-checked: all build, all keep the exact footprint and seamless edges, and the triangle count stays between 1248 and 1952. At the tallest settings the named hero view crops the stairs slightly; Reset view refits. glb-lint reports 0 errors. Its 5 warnings are the per-mesh material clones (count and duplicates), the intended non-indexed flat-normal bake, deliberately embedded joins (the seam strata and brackets sit inside their wall's bounds), and the 2.4 m height against the direction's 1 m reference. Its overall verdict line reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. Fix rounds: three visual rounds (concentric white tiers that read as a cake → mesa-style tiers stepping back toward one sheer back face, with a dark table, mid-brown walls and light ledge tops), plus one correctness fix after the numeric tiling check found the sugar-cube stairs overhanging the +x edge by 17 mm.
