Floating chairs

Three ladder-back dining chairs stacked into an impossible tower on a black-and-white checker plinth. The lower chair stands upright, the middle one rocks back on a single foot, and the top one lies on its back on the middle chair's rail. Low-poly, flat-shaded, and built to the Dream Maze kit palette.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Floating chairs for the Dream Maze kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Dream Maze kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Stairs that go nowhere and doors in the sky. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: lilac #b89fd1, cream #f1e7d0, checker black and white #f4f1ec, gold #d0a225, lilac dark #916bb8, cream dark #e0c994, lilac light #ded4e8, cream light #fbf9f4, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `gravityDirection` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Gravity direction" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Overall size about 1.26 m wide × 2.03 m tall × 1.24 m deep. Each chair is 0.92 m tall with its seat at 0.46 m and a 0.44 m × 0.42 m seat, and the checker plinth is 1.24 m square and 0.12 m tall. The plinth rests on y = 0 and the origin is its centre. Static model with no animation clip, 1216 triangles. Nothing hovers. The middle chair's rear foot cap sinks 4 mm into the lower chair's cushion, and the upper chair's back rail sinks 6 mm into the middle chair's top rail. These are deliberate contact joins, and there are no other intersections across the full range of gravityDirection. gravityDirection sets how far the tower tips. At 0 both upper chairs are nearly upright. At 0.5 the middle chair rocks back 18° and the top chair lies on its back. At 1 the top chair stands upside down on its rail. seatWidth and backHeight resize all three chairs. Params are baked into the exported GLB at their default values. Every material is named for its Dream Maze palette colour. Gold is shared by the foot caps and the top seat, and mid grey, warm white and dark wood are not used. Each part node carries its id in its name and in extras.partId. Each part also sits inside an identity-transform group named with a hyphen-free alias (for example dreammazefloatingchairs.lower.seat) that the kit's plan checker needs. glb-lint reported 0 errors. Its warnings are: 18 material slots (the exporter writes one per mesh, covering 9 unique palette names), non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, the two checker meshes sharing one bounding box, the alias wrappers flagged as 'detached' parts, and the 2.03 m height against the direction's 1 m reference.
