Mine cart

A low-poly narrow-gauge mine cart: a sage green tapered steel tub with dark straps and rim, heaped with sandstone ore, on a dark wood chassis with four flanged rail wheels, chain couplings and a brake lever. In a seamless 6 s loop the brake lever pulls, the tub tips sideways on its hinge and settles back.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Mine cart for the Desert Canyon kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Desert Canyon kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Red rock, heat and hidden water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: sandstone orange #ed7e1d, sage #89a178, sky blue #2e67b8, bone #e4ddcd, sandstone orange dark #af590e, sage dark #637854, sandstone orange light #eea668, sage light #b1bca9, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `rockColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Rock colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the tub is 1.2 m long, 0.96 m wide over the rim and 0.5 m deep. The cart is 0.98 m wide over the buffer beams, 1.94 m long over the coupling links and 1.13 m tall to the ore crown. The wheels are 0.38 m across the flange on a 600 mm-class gauge. The origin is at the bottom centre with the four wheel flanges touching y = 0 (the treads sit 2 cm higher, as they would on a rail head). The front faces +Z, and the tub tips toward +X. The exported model has 1,932 triangles in 17 meshes. Every material is named exactly after its Desert Canyon palette colour; 7 of the 12 colours are used at the default rock colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. The geometry is non-indexed with face normals, so it stays flat-shaded in any engine. The baked clip scene-motion (6 s, seamless, at rest at 0 s and 6 s) moves only the brake lever, about its pivot on the rear buffer, and the tub with its ore, about the hinge line along the tub's +X floor edge. The chassis and wheels never move; the wheels are parked, not rolling. The ore stays in the tub as one rigid load while it tips. The GLB's static node transforms are the pose at the moment of export (t = 2 s, tub part-tipped); play or sample the clip at 0 s for the rest pose. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. rockColour (the kit's 'Rock colour') slides the three ore tones along the ramp bone → sandstone orange light → sandstone orange → sandstone orange dark → dark wood: pale ore at 0, sandstone at 0.5, dark ore at 1. loadHeight sets the heap height and chunk count (a low dark floor at 0). tipAngle only changes the animation, not the rest pose. Both extremes passed three-check (rockColour 0, length 1.4 m, load 0, tip 0.8 rad; and rockColour 1, length 1.0 m, load 1, tip 0). glb-lint: 0 errors and 4 warnings. Two are about material count and duplicates, both caused by the per-mesh materials. One flags non-indexed geometry, which is deliberate flat shading. One flags overlaps where the wheel flanges and webs nest on the treads and the axle boxes nest into the beams. Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no host requirements contract was supplied. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires (a de-hyphenated copy passes). three-check accepts those ids, and all 7 survive the GLB reload.

About the Mine cart 3D model

Mine cart is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Desert Canyon set. It measures 1.2 m × 1.4 m × 2.1 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,932 triangles across 17 meshes, with 7 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 210 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Mine cart 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 210 KB: 1,932 triangles, 5,732 vertices and 17 materials, modelled in metres at 1.2 m × 1.4 m × 2.1 m.
Is Mine cart animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Mine cart 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
