Canyon walls

A low-poly red-rock canyon wall for a desert scene: faceted sandstone strata step back as they rise, with a shaded seep alcove holding a thin line of water and sage shrubs, a juniper on the rim and a scree slope with fallen blocks at the foot. It is a 6 m modular segment that snaps end to end on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Canyon walls for the Desert Canyon kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. This is one part of the Desert Canyon kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Red rock, heat and hidden water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: sandstone orange #ed7e1d, sage #89a178, sky blue #2e67b8, bone #e4ddcd, sandstone orange dark #af590e, sage dark #637854, sandstone orange light #eea668, sage light #b1bca9, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `rockColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Rock colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: at the defaults the segment is 6.0 m long (X) and about 4.9 m deep (Z), counting the 1.3 m scree talus in front of a 3 m thick rock body. The rock rim is about 6.0–6.35 m high, and the juniper tops out at 7.36 m. Snapping: the wall runs along +X with the cliff face towards +Z. The origin is its snapping end (x = 0, y = 0), and the far end sits exactly at x = length, so the next piece's origin goes there. The footprint is centred in Z on the origin's line. Both end faces are flat vertical cuts with the same strata profile, because the facet jitter fades to zero at the ends, so chained pieces meet flush. This breaks the library's usual bottom-centre origin on purpose, because the brief asks for an end origin on modular pieces. Faceting comes from a seeded table (no Math.random). The model has 1,376 triangles in 12 meshes, merged per part and colour, with flat normals and no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. rockColour (kit 'Rock colour') picks the strata swatch in three steps: pale sandstone with bone bands (low), red rock (default) or deep dark sandstone (high). The bone desert-floor disc in the preview is viewer staging only and is not in the GLB. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings: duplicate same-name materials (the exporter writes one per mesh, so 12 materials but only 7 colours), 'detached' alcove, caprock and seep (they rest on the band below with a 1 cm overlap), a sibling overlap (the talus leans into the base band), and a scale note (expects ~1 m; this is a 6 m cliff). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. It was verified PASS on a de-hyphenated copy. three-check accepts those ids, and all 8 survive the GLB reload.

About the Canyon walls 3D model

Canyon walls is a free low-poly 3D model from the Desert Canyon set. It measures 6.0 m × 7.4 m × 4.9 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,376 triangles across 12 meshes, with 8 named parts. Download the 101 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Canyon walls 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 101 KB: 1,376 triangles, 3,396 vertices and 12 materials, modelled in metres at 6.0 m × 7.4 m × 4.9 m.
Can I animate Canyon walls?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 8 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Canyon walls 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
