Cacti

A low-poly stand of six desert cactus shapes among sandstone rocks: a tall saguaro with elbowed arms, an organ-pipe clump, prickly-pear pads with fruit, a ribbed barrel cactus with a flower crown, a jointed cholla and a small hedgehog cluster in bloom.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Cacti for the Desert Canyon kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Desert Canyon kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Red rock, heat and hidden water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: sandstone orange #ed7e1d, sage #89a178, sky blue #2e67b8, bone #e4ddcd, sandstone orange dark #af590e, sage dark #637854, sandstone orange light #eea668, sage light #b1bca9, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `rockColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Rock colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 4.16 m wide x 2.53 m deep x 3.24 m tall at the defaults. The saguaro is 3.2 m tall and the organ pipe 2.0 m; the barrel cactus is 0.7 m and the hedgehog clump about 0.4 m. The origin is the bottom centre, resting on y = 0, and the front faces +Z. The GLB has 5,094 triangles in 12 meshes and no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so some names repeat (12 materials, 7 colours); recolour by name. The params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Only the defaults were rendered and checked. rockColour (the kit's 'Rock colour') moves the two rock tones together along the ramp bone → sandstone orange light → sandstone orange → sandstone orange dark → dark wood, in three steps: below 0.25 the rocks are sandstone light with bone stones, 0.25–0.75 gives the default shown, and above 0.75 they are sandstone dark with sandstone orange stones. It does not affect the cacti. No spines are modelled; the ribs are a star-shaped facet rhythm. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 warnings: material count and duplicate names (one material per mesh, by design), non-indexed geometry (deliberate, for hard flat-shaded facet normals), overlapping sibling boxes (blossoms, fruit and flowers sit on their cacti on purpose), and scale (3.24 m is real-world scale). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 13 survive the GLB reload. Fix rounds: smoother saguaro elbows (a quarter-circle spine instead of a sharp corner), and bigger prickly-pear pads plus tighter rock placement.

About the Cacti 3D model

Cacti is a free low-poly 3D model from the Desert Canyon set. It measures 4.2 m × 3.2 m × 2.5 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 5,094 triangles across 12 meshes, with 13 named parts. Download the 370 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Cacti 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 370 KB: 5,094 triangles, 15,282 vertices and 12 materials, modelled in metres at 4.2 m × 3.2 m × 2.5 m.
Can I animate Cacti?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 13 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Cacti 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
