Mooring rings

A low-poly 1.5 m length of canal bank edge: three grey coping stones on a brick wall, each with a black cast-iron mooring ring lying in a leaded staple near the water edge, and a green algae line at the waterline.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Mooring rings for the Canal and Locks kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Canal and Locks kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Slow boats through green country. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: canal green #3a883a, boat red and blue #2e67b8, brick #9e3d2e, willow #988e81, canal green dark #235223, boat red and blue dark #1f457a, canal green light #5db15d, boat red and blue light #6190d1, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `waterLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Water level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world size 1.50 m long × 0.47 m deep, 0.52 m to the coping top and 0.57 m to the staple crowns. The rings have a 0.10 m radius (about 23 cm across) in 32 mm bar. Origin at the bottom centre, resting on y = 0, and the water side faces +Z. Exported model: 764 triangles, static (no clip), every material named after its kit palette colour (non-indexed for flat facets, so mid grey and other colours repeat per part). waterLevel moves only the algae line on the brick face, from 5 cm to 29 cm above the toe. The section has no water body, so put it against your own canal water. ringRaise swings the rings on their staples from flat (rest) to upright. ringCount 1–3 puts one ring per stone, starting with the middle one. All params were tested at their extremes and three-check PASSed. glb-lint: 0 errors (the verdict is 'UNVERIFIED' only because no requirements contract exists). plan-check's part-id pattern rejects hyphenated slugs, so the plan was verified on a de-hyphenated copy (PASS).

About the Mooring rings 3D model

Mooring rings is a free low-poly 3D model from the Canal and Locks set. It measures 1.5 m × 57 cm × 47 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 764 triangles across 8 meshes, with 6 named parts. Download the 61 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Mooring rings 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 61 KB: 764 triangles, 2,292 vertices and 8 materials, modelled in metres at 1.5 m × 57 cm × 47 cm.
Can I animate Mooring rings?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 6 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Mooring rings 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
