Waterwheel

A timber waterwheel turning between two leaning trestle bents over a stone mill-race channel — paddle-and-sole buckets, chorded rim, copper bushings and a crank take-off on the axle. Built for the Alchemist's Quarter kit in flat low-poly style.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Waterwheel for the Alchemist's Quarter kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Alchemist's Quarter kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A narrow street of workshops and odd shops. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: timber brown #6b4a2e, plaster cream #f1e7d0, teal #2d8686, copper #b8602e, timber brown dark #362517, plaster cream dark #e0c994, timber brown light #9b704b, plaster cream light #fbf9f4, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `leanOfTheBuildings` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Lean of the buildings" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Real-world scale for a small workshop wheel: ~3.1 m tall overall, wheel diameter 3.0 m and 0.58 m wide, footprint ~3.0 × 1.9 m; metres throughout, origin at bottom centre, front (+Z) is the wheel-face side with the crank stub. Baked clip 'scene-motion' (8 s, seamless): the wheel — axle, nave, spokes, rim chords, buckets and crank — turns exactly one revolution about the real axle line, and the race water breathes a ±3 mm ripple four times per loop; the frame, sills and race never move. The GLB rest pose is t=0. leanOfTheBuildings racks both bents sideways up to ~6° (feet slide on the sills, bearings stay clamped on the axle); paddleCount respaces rim chords, paddles and soles together; wheelWidth widens the drum and respaces the bents and race walls; raceLength only rescales the channel. All materials are flat-shaded, metalness 0, roughness 0.9-1.0, no textures, and named after palette colours; the exporter writes one material instance per mesh so the GLB carries repeated copies of the same seven palette-named materials (dedupe by name if needed). glb-lint warnings are benign: non-indexed primitives are the deliberate flat facets, sibling overlaps are mortised knee-brace/leg joinery, 'detached' spokes are actually embedded in nave and rim beyond the linter's box-touch heuristic, and the 3.11 m height is intended real-world scale for the subject.
