Hot air balloon

A low-poly hot air balloon standing inflated on the grass: a wicker basket with fuel tanks, padded uprights and a double burner, flying wires up to a dark skirt, and a lobed teardrop envelope in orange and white gores with sky-blue bands. It plays a seamless 6-second loop in which the envelope sways gently and the burner fires twice.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Hot air balloon for the Airfield kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Airfield kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Small planes on a grass strip. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: grass green #3a883a, hangar white #f4f1ec, signal orange #ff851a, sky blue #2e67b8, grass green dark #235223, hangar white dark #d7cebc, grass green light #5db15d, hangar white light #f9f8f6, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `era` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Era" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: a 15 m envelope (about 2,000 m³ class) on a 1.3 × 1.05 m basket with a 1.1 m rim. The model is 21.76 m tall from the skids to the vent cap and about 15.7 m across the lobes. Origin is at the bottom centre of the basket, its skids rest on y = 0, +Y is up and the front faces +Z. The GLB has 2,964 triangles in 18 meshes (merged per part and colour), no textures, and flat normals (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour; 8 of the 12 kit colours are used (the three grass greens and warm white are not). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name can repeat: recolour by name. Motion: one baked 6 s clip, 'scene-motion'. The envelope assembly (envelope, skirt and flying wires) pivots at the load frame where the wires are shackled (x = 0, y = 2.55 m, z = 0) and makes one slow elliptical sway per loop (±2° at the default, ±4° at sway 1). The burner flame scales in height about its nozzle plane (y = 2.81 m) and fires twice per loop. The basket, tanks, uprights and burner never move. era (the kit's 'Era') blends the envelope from a rounder vintage pear at 0 to a tall modern teardrop at 1. From 0.5 the single burner becomes a double. envelopeDiameter and gores reshape the envelope, and sway sets the clip's amplitude. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. three-check passes at both param extremes. The viewer's ground and light rig are not in the GLB. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings, all expected: duplicate and many materials come from per-part, per-colour meshes; non-indexed geometry keeps flat facets; the overlaps are basket bands and rim nested on the walls; 'detached' flags the flame and skirt, which sit on the burner nozzle and inside the envelope mouth (different parts); the height warning only compares against a 1 m reference. The verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen. The same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes.

About the Hot air balloon 3D model

Hot air balloon is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Airfield set. It measures 15 m × 22 m × 16 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,964 triangles across 18 meshes, with 10 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 241 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Hot air balloon 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 241 KB: 2,964 triangles, 8,892 vertices and 18 materials, modelled in metres at 15 m × 22 m × 16 m.
Is Hot air balloon animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Hot air balloon 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
