Wind pump

A low-poly scrap farm wind pump for a wasteland outpost. It has a tapering lattice tower on concrete footings, a multi-blade wheel with a tail vane on a swivel head, and a pump rod feeding a rusty trough. It plays a seamless 6-second loop: the wheel turns, the head swivels and the pump rod strokes.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Wind pump for the Wasteland Outpost kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Wasteland Outpost kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A scrap fort in a dead land. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: dust brown #6b4a2e, rust #9b4427, faded yellow #dbc970, grey #757e8a, dust brown dark #362517, rust dark #5e2917, dust brown light #9b704b, rust light #c96645, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `decayLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Decay level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

  • Platform
  • Well head and trough

  • Wheel

Note: Size: 7.6 m tall to the wheel top. The tower is 6 m and stands on a 2.14 m square footprint. The wheel is 2.4 m across and the tail reaches about 2.1 m behind the tower axis. The origin is at the bottom centre of the tower footprint, with the footings resting on y = 0. The wheel faces +Z. The GLB holds the rest pose and one baked 6 s clip, 'scene-motion'. In the clip the wheel turns two full revolutions on its axle, the head swivels ±7° on the tower-top turntable and the pump rod strokes ±8 cm, once per wheel revolution. The footings, tower, platform and well/trough never move. The model has 2,280 triangles in 30 meshes. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour and all 12 are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name repeats across materials: recolour by name. Params are baked at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt. decayLevel (kit 'Decay level') works as follows: blades rust (up to about a third) and up to 2 go missing, up to 2 tower braces drop out, the tail droops up to 4° and gains up to 3 rust patches. glb-lint reports 0 errors. It gives 6 heuristic warnings, all expected for this build: material count above the direction default (per-mesh materials), duplicate PBR values (same palette colour on several meshes), non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, deliberate nesting (legs through girts and the deck, rod in the pump head and gearbox), the deck and rod touching parts in other groups, and the 'scale' check, which expects a 1 m object (its 8.05 m box is conservative around the rotated wheel). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. three-check accepts those ids, and all 9 survive the GLB reload.

About the Wind pump 3D model

Wind pump is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Wasteland Outpost set. It measures 3.3 m × 8.1 m × 4.5 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,280 triangles across 30 meshes, with 9 named parts and a baked animation (6.0 s). Download the 204 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Wind pump 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 204 KB: 2,280 triangles, 6,840 vertices and 30 materials, modelled in metres at 3.3 m × 8.1 m × 4.5 m.
Is Wind pump animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (6.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Wind pump 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
