Gate on a counterweight

A low-poly scrap lift gate for a wasteland outpost: a striped, spiked boom on an axle between twin steel uprights. It has a concrete counterweight, a skirt of hanging scrap sheets and a rest post set in a concrete-filled tyre. It plays a seamless 8-second loop: the latch flips open, the boom lifts, holds, lowers and is latched again.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Gate on a counterweight for the Wasteland Outpost kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Wasteland Outpost kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A scrap fort in a dead land. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: dust brown #6b4a2e, rust #9b4427, faded yellow #dbc970, grey #757e8a, dust brown dark #362517, rust dark #5e2917, dust brown light #9b704b, rust light #c96645, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `decayLevel` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Decay level" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 5 m long (5 grid cells) along +X, 1.0 m deep and 1.7 m tall closed. The boom tip reaches about 5.2 m when lifted. Grid snapping: the origin is at the snapping end, x = 0 on the counterweight side, centred in depth, with the skid resting on y = 0. The piece fills x 0 to 5 m, so the next module snaps at x = 5. The front faces +Z. The axle sits 1 m in from the snapping end, 1.3 m up. The GLB holds the closed, latched rest pose and one baked 8 s clip, 'scene-motion'. In the clip the latch flips open on its pin, the boom lifts on the axle (counterweight dropping behind it), holds, lowers and re-latches. The skid, uprights, axle and rest post never move. 1,164 triangles in the GLB. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour and all 12 are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name repeats across materials: recolour by name. Params are baked at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt. length (whole metres, 4–7) extends the boom, skirt and rest-post position and grows the counterweight. openAngle sets how far the loop lifts the boom. decayLevel (kit 'Decay level') rusts out some yellow stripes and leans the rest post up to 5° (its cradle still meets the boom). It also skews the skirt sheets, drops one sheet above 0.7 and adds scrap weights on the counterweight. glb-lint: 0 errors, 5 heuristic warnings, all expected for this build: material count above the direction default (per-mesh materials), duplicate PBR values (same palette colour on several meshes), non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, deliberate embeds (straps in the block, skirt tops in the boom) and parts that touch across groups (axle in the uprights, latch on its prong). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. three-check accepts those ids, and all 11 survive the GLB reload.

About the Gate on a counterweight 3D model

Gate on a counterweight is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Wasteland Outpost set. It measures 5.0 m × 1.7 m × 1.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,164 triangles across 28 meshes, with 11 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 155 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Gate on a counterweight 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 155 KB: 1,164 triangles, 3,492 vertices and 28 materials, modelled in metres at 5.0 m × 1.7 m × 1.0 m.
Is Gate on a counterweight animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Gate on a counterweight 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
