Palm groves

A low-poly stand of five coconut palms on a faceted sand knoll, for the Tropical Island kit. Curving trunks with leaf-scar rings lean out from the grove under drooping frond crowns and coconut clusters, with shrubs, coral blooms, fallen coconuts and rocks at their feet.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Palm groves for the Tropical Island kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Tropical Island kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Palm beach and blue lagoon. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: sand #d1bd94, turquoise #31c4b8, palm green #3a883a, coral #e2715a, sand dark #ba9c5e, turquoise dark #22877e, sand light #e6ddcb, turquoise light #6dd5cc, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `islandSize` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Island size" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 11.4 × 11.1 m overall at the frond tips, 8.7 m tall; the sand knoll is about 9 × 7.2 m and 0.42 m high, and the palms are 5.4–7.5 m to the crown. The bottom rests on y = 0, the origin is at the bottom centre and the front faces +Z. The GLB has 6,042 triangles in 14 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip; three-check's 6.3k figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour (7 of the 12; turquoise, soot black and warm white are unused because this part has no water). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so 'sand dark', 'dark wood' and 'palm green' appear more than once; recolour by name. islandSize (the kit's 'Island size') sets the knoll's footprint (radius 3.5 m at 0 to 5.5 m at 1) and the palms and understorey spread out over it. palmCount (3–7), palmHeight and lean reshape the grove. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; only the defaults were rendered and checked. The viewer uses exposure 0.7 rather than the direction's 1.05 so the pale sand does not wash out; this does not affect the GLB. Crowns of neighbouring palms overlap a little, as in a real grove; fronds are open folded strips, not leaf-by-leaf. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 warnings, all expected: 14 materials over the direction's 10 (duplicates come from the per-mesh export), non-indexed geometry on purpose for hard flat-shaded facets, overlapping boxes for nested pieces (knoll layers, shrubs/blooms), and a scale heuristic that expects a 1 m object. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids (its regex allows no hyphen); the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 15 ids.

About the Palm groves 3D model

Palm groves is a free low-poly 3D model from the Tropical Island set. It measures 11 m × 8.7 m × 11 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 6,042 triangles across 14 meshes, with 15 named parts. Download the 438 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Palm groves 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 438 KB: 6,042 triangles, 18,126 vertices and 14 materials, modelled in metres at 11 m × 8.7 m × 11 m.
Can I animate Palm groves?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 15 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Palm groves 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
