Driftwood

A low-poly, sea-bleached driftwood log for the Tropical Island kit: a long, gently bent grey trunk lying on the sand, with a root crown whose broken roots claw upward, a forked side branch, snapped stubs with pale heartwood ends and a strand of seaweed draped over it.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Driftwood for the Tropical Island kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Tropical Island kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Palm beach and blue lagoon. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: sand #d1bd94, turquoise #31c4b8, palm green #3a883a, coral #e2715a, sand dark #ba9c5e, turquoise dark #22877e, sand light #e6ddcb, turquoise light #6dd5cc, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `islandSize` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Island size" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 2.77 m long (log about 2.4 m plus the root crown), 1.09 m deep and 1.08 m tall at the tallest broken root. The log is about 0.34 m across, flaring to about 0.6 m at the root end, which is believable for a washed-up beach log. The log runs along X with the root crown at -X. The bottom rests on y = 0: the log's underside lies flat on the sand along its whole length. The origin is at the footprint centre and the front faces +Z. The GLB has 1116 triangles in 13 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip. three-check's figure (about 1.4k) is higher because it includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. Only 5 of the 12 are used, because sand, turquoise and coral have no place on weathered wood. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so 'mid grey', 'sand light' and 'sand dark' repeat; recolour by name. islandSize (the kit's 'Island size') scales the whole piece 0.85×–1.15×. length and girth set the log's length and radius, with the roots, branch and stubs following. rootSpread sets 4–9 roots and their reach. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and change the geometry only when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. Only the defaults were rendered and checked. The viewer uses exposure 0.56 rather than the direction's 1.05, so the pale grain keeps its facets; this does not affect the GLB. glb-lint: 0 errors and 5 warnings, all expected. They are 13 materials over the direction's soft cap of 10 (repeated palette names from the per-mesh export), non-indexed geometry used on purpose for flat facets, overlapping boxes between colour meshes of the same part, and a 'detached' flag for the knots, which are seated into the log surface. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen. The same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 7 ids.

About the Driftwood 3D model

Driftwood is a free low-poly 3D model from the Tropical Island set. It measures 2.8 m × 1.1 m × 1.1 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,116 triangles across 13 meshes, with 7 named parts. Download the 91 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Driftwood 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 91 KB: 1,116 triangles, 3,348 vertices and 13 materials, modelled in metres at 2.8 m × 1.1 m × 1.1 m.
Can I animate Driftwood?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 7 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Driftwood 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
