Robot shells

A low-poly rolling rack of empty robot shells. White torso shells with orange shoulder caps and open chest hatches stand on fixture posts above a caster cart, and their dome head shells wait on a rail overhead.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Robot shells for the Robot Factory kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Robot Factory kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A clean line that builds robots. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, light grey #a3a5a8, electric blue #136dec, orange #ed7e1d, white dark #d7cebc, light grey dark #7c7f83, white light #f9f8f6, light grey light #cccccc, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `lineSpeed` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Line speed" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: the default rack is 2.50 m long, 0.83 m deep with the hatches open (0.80 m to the bumpers) and 1.73 m tall to the antenna tips. The torso shells are about 0.6 m tall. The origin is at the bottom centre, the caster wheels rest on y = 0 and the shells face +Z. The GLB has 2,972 triangles in 27 draw calls (meshes are merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. 9 of the 12 kit colours are used; white light, warm white and dark wood are not. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. slots sets the rack length (3–5 positions) and hatchOpen swings the chest hatches from closed to about 105° open. lineSpeed (the kit's 'Line speed') animates nothing because the asset is static. It sets how many slots hold a shell and head: 0 leaves one, 1 fills every slot, and the default leaves 3 of 4 filled. The empty slot is picked by a seeded order. glb-lint: 0 errors. Its verdict prints UNVERIFIED because 5 rules need a requirements contract or a manual review. It also gives 3 heuristic warnings. Two are about the material count and come from the per-mesh materials. The third flags overlapping boxes where trim, rims and liners are deliberately nested. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. three-check accepts those ids, and all 6 survive the GLB reload.

About the Robot shells 3D model

Robot shells is a free low-poly 3D model from the Robot Factory set. It measures 2.5 m × 1.7 m × 83 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,972 triangles across 27 meshes, with 6 named parts. Download the 148 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Robot shells 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 148 KB: 2,972 triangles, 4,401 vertices and 27 materials, modelled in metres at 2.5 m × 1.7 m × 83 cm.
Can I animate Robot shells?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 6 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Robot shells 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
