Hanging rails

A low-poly greenhouse hanging rail: two dark blue A-frame ends carry twin galvanised rails, with terracotta and white bowls of trailing plants hung from S-hooks on three chains. Modular on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Hanging rails for the Plant Shop and Greenhouse kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. This is one part of the Plant Shop and Greenhouse kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Glass, humidity and green. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: leaf green #3a883a, glass blue #2e67b8, terracotta #be5937, white #f4f1ec, leaf green dark #235223, glass blue dark #1f457a, leaf green light #5db15d, glass blue light #6190d1, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `plantMix` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Plant mix" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the defaults: 2 m long (X, a whole number of metres on the 1 m grid), 1.0 m deep across the splayed feet (Z) and 2.22 m tall at the ridge bar. The rails sit at about 2.05 m and the bowls hang roughly 1.2 to 1.5 m off the floor. Origin: the snapping end (x = 0) at floor level, centred in depth. The run spans x = 0 to x = length, the front faces +Z and the model rests on y = 0. The rails and ridge bar run flush to both ends, so chained pieces read as one continuous rail. Each piece keeps its own A-frames, inset 5 cm from its ends, so a joint shows a pair of frames 10 cm apart. The GLB has 1,852 triangles in 12 meshes. It is static and carries no animation clip. three-check's 2,142-triangle figure also counts the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. At the maximum params (4 m, 3 baskets per metre, plantMix 1, 0.8 m drop) the viewer reports about 6,500 triangles including the ground, still under the 10,000 budget. Of the 12 kit colours, 9 are used: glass blue, glass blue light and warm white do not appear. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so recolour by name. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. plantMix (the kit's 'Plant mix') plants a share of the bowls in a fixed seeded order: about 45% at 0 (always at least one) and all of them at 1. The rest are bare bowls of soil. plantMix also sets how lush the clumps are and how many trailing strands they have, and how long. The front rail carries basketsPerMetre × length bowls. The back rail carries one fewer, set between them, so the rows interleave. hangDrop sets the chain length, with a small seeded stagger. Both param extremes were rendered and passed three-check in temporary runs. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 6 warnings. Two come from the per-mesh materials. One flags non-indexed geometry, which is deliberate flat shading. One flags sibling overlaps, which is the soil and plants nested in the bowls. One flags the rails, ridge bar and hangers as 'detached', though each rests on the frames. One flags the 2.22 m height against a generic 1 m reference. The verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. With the ids substituted it passes. three-check accepts the real ids, and all 6 survive the GLB reload. Both fix rounds were visual: overlapping back-row bowls, then too many bare bowls at the default plantMix.

About the Hanging rails 3D model

Hanging rails is a free low-poly 3D model from the Plant Shop and Greenhouse set. It measures 2.0 m × 2.2 m × 1.2 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,852 triangles across 12 meshes, with 6 named parts. Download the 141 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Hanging rails 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 141 KB: 1,852 triangles, 5,556 vertices and 12 materials, modelled in metres at 2.0 m × 2.2 m × 1.2 m.
Can I animate Hanging rails?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 6 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Hanging rails 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
