Staircase

A low-poly straight museum staircase module with marble treads, a deep red runner held by brass stair rods, closed strings, vase balusters, dark wood handrails and newel posts with brass finials. It snaps on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Staircase for the Museum kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. This is one part of the Museum kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Quiet halls of old things. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: marble white #f4f1ec, deep red #861313, brass #b28c34, slate #525e6f, marble white dark #d7cebc, deep red dark #430a0a, marble white light #f9f8f6, deep red light #c32222, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `collectionTheme` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Collection theme" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 2.00 m wide, 3.00 m of run and 1.50 m of rise. The model is 2.88 m tall to the top of the finials, and the handrail sits about 0.95 m above the nosings. Grid: the run is a whole number of metres (3 m by default) and the rise is always half of it. That gives 9 steps per 3 m, with 1/3 m goings and 1/6 m risers. Origin: the origin is the snapping end, not the bounding-box centre. x = 0 is the centreline, y = 0 is the floor, and z = 0 is the front face of the first step. The flight climbs toward -Z, so the risers face +Z, and the whole module fits exactly inside x ±1.0 m and z from -3.0 to 0. To continue the flight, put the next module at (0, length/2, -length) and the treads continue the same 1:2 slope. Every module carries its own newel posts, so stacked flights show a pair of newels at each joint. The model is static with no animation clip. It has 4146 triangles at the defaults. At length 6 it should be about 8800 by estimate; that size was not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour. At the default theme those are marble white, marble white dark, marble white light, deep red, brass and dark wood. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same names repeat across 13 material entries. Recolour by name. collectionTheme (the kit's 'Collection theme') picks the finish. Below 0.33 is an archive stair: mid grey treads, slate strings and newels, soot black balusters and rails, and a deep red dark runner. 0.33–0.67 (the default) is classical marble with a deep red runner and dark wood rails. Above 0.67 is a grand hall: marble white light treads, warm white strings, brass balusters and a deep red light runner. runnerWidth 0 removes the runner and the stair rods. Params are baked at their defaults and only change the model when it is rebuilt in the viewer, and only the defaults were rendered and checked. Some overlaps are deliberate butt joins, not gaps: the tread and body ends sit inside the strings, the balusters sink into the string top and the handrail, and the handrails end inside the newels. The runner drapes over each nosing and lies 12 mm proud of the marble. glb-lint reports 0 errors and 5 heuristic warnings: the material count and duplicate materials (both from the per-mesh copies), non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat shading), sibling overlap (the declared joins above), and height versus the 1 m reference (a real staircase is 2.9 m). Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no host requirements contract was supplied. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphen in the slug-based ids this library requires; with the ids substituted it passes. three-check accepts the real ids, and all 13 survive the GLB reload.

About the Staircase 3D model

Staircase is a free low-poly 3D model from the Museum set. It measures 2.0 m × 2.9 m × 3.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 4,146 triangles across 13 meshes, with 13 named parts. Download the 304 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Staircase 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 304 KB: 4,146 triangles, 12,870 vertices and 13 materials, modelled in metres at 2.0 m × 2.9 m × 3.0 m.
Can I animate Staircase?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 13 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Staircase 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
