Stalactites

A low-poly slab of cave ceiling about 4 m across with a dense fringe of pale calcite stalactites hanging from it, held up by one flowstone column, with small cyan crystal clusters and short stalagmites below.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Stalactites for the Cave System kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Cave System kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Tunnels, crystals and underground water. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: stone grey #757e8a, crystal cyan #20c6df, moss #55743e, torch amber #ec9c13, stone grey dark #525860, crystal cyan dark #168a9c, stone grey light #a3a5a8, crystal cyan light #67d4e4, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `crystalColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Crystal colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 4.13 × 3.10 m in plan and 3.76 m tall; the ceiling underside sits at 3.0 m and the longest stalactite is 2.0 m, leaving about 1 m of headroom under it. Stalactites hang from a ceiling, so to rest on y = 0 like the rest of the library the piece is a slab of cave ceiling carried by one flowstone column (a stalactite fused to its stalagmite) at the back-left; for a real cave roof, sink the slab into your ceiling and hide or delete the column part. The origin is at the footprint centre, front faces +Z. The GLB has 2,284 triangles in 14 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip; three-check's figure includes the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour; the exporter writes one material per mesh, so names repeat — recolour by name. At the defaults 7 of the 12 kit colours are used (crystal cyan dark appears when crystalColour is low; soot black, torch amber, mid grey and dark wood are not used). crystalColour (the kit's 'Crystal colour') slides the three crystal clusters along crystal cyan dark → crystal cyan → crystal cyan light, with tips one step lighter (warm white at the top end). stalactites sets how many drips hang (seeded spots, longer toward the middle), maxLength caps the longest drip (always at least 0.9 m above the floor), and ceilingHeight raises the slab and stretches the column. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer; only the defaults were rendered and checked. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 warnings, all expected: per-mesh duplicate materials, non-indexed geometry on purpose for hard flat facets, nested boxes inside a part, a 'detached' heuristic for the slab meshes (they rest on the column, which lives in a different part group), and a scale warning because the 3.8 m piece is above the 1 m reference height. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 6 ids.

About the Stalactites 3D model

Stalactites is a free low-poly 3D model from the Cave System set. It measures 4.1 m × 3.8 m × 3.1 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,284 triangles across 14 meshes, with 6 named parts. Download the 174 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Stalactites 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 174 KB: 2,284 triangles, 6,852 vertices and 14 materials, modelled in metres at 4.1 m × 3.8 m × 3.1 m.
Can I animate Stalactites?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 6 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Stalactites 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
