Opening bridge

A low-poly single-leaf bascule cycle bridge: a brick-red bike-lane leaf on dark-green girders rises on two hydraulic rams between brick abutments, while striped barrier booms drop across the lane and a cream bridge-keeper's hut watches from the far side. It loops open and closed in 12 seconds and snaps to the Bicycle City kit on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Opening bridge for the Bicycle City kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Bicycle City kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Streets made for bikes. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: brick red lanes #c32222, canal green #3a883a, bright bike colours #b39d80, cream #f1e7d0, brick red lanes dark #821717, canal green dark #235223, brick red lanes light #db5757, canal green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `bikeColours` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Bike colours" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at the default params: 13 m long, 6.6 m across the abutments (the lane is 3.0 m wide), 5.16 m tall closed (hut finial) and 8.05 m tall fully open (leaf rail tips at 70°). The deck and both landings sit at 1.2 m, and the canal gap between the abutment faces is 7 m. The near (hinge) abutment and the far (hut) abutment are 3 m long each. Snapping: the bridge runs from its snapping end at z = 0 to z = -length, always whole metres, so it lands on the kit's 1 m grid, like bicycle-city-bike-bridge. The origin is at the snapping end, centred on the lane, at y = 0 (the foot of the abutments). This replaces the library's usual bottom-centre origin, because the brief asks for an end origin on modular pieces. Both end faces are flat. The footprint is asymmetric across the lane: footways run 1 m out on each side, and the far abutment also reaches 2.6 m out on +X to carry the hut. The model has no water, quay or ground. Motion: a 12 s seamless loop baked as the clip 'scene-motion'. It goes: open hold at t = 0 (so the thumbnail shows an opening bridge), the leaf lowers, the booms rise, a closed hold, the booms drop, the leaf rises. The leaf pivots on the hinge axis at the deck-top edge of the near abutment face. Each ram barrel swivels on its base pin on that face and is aimed each frame at the leaf's lug pin. Its rod slides out along the barrel axis, so the rod eye stays on the lug pin. Each boom turns about the hub on its post top. The abutments, hinges, posts, stop lights and hut never move. The GLB's static node pose is the t = 2 s frame (leaf part-closed, about 51°), because three-check exports after its determinism seek. That is why glb-lint reports bounds y up to 7.20 m. Play the clip, or set t = 0, for the open rest pose. The GLB has 1,872 triangles in 47 meshes (merged per part and colour), with flat normals baked in (non-indexed). Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour, and all 12 colours are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. There is no text, pictogram or signage. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. bikeColours (the kit's 'Bike colours') sets the share of railing posts painted in bright bike colours, picked in a golden-ratio order so raising it only ever adds colour. length (11–16 m) lengthens the leaf and the canal gap. deckWidth (2.4–4.0 m) widens the lane and moves the girders, rams, posts and hut out with it. openAngle (45–80°) sets how far the loop raises the leaf, and the rams have stroke for the full range. Only the default params were captured. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings. These are material count and duplicate materials (from the per-mesh materials), unindexed geometry (flat shading on purpose), sibling overlap (seated and nested pieces), detached parts (the boom hubs sit against their housings, and the hut plinth stands on the footway in another part), and scale (compared with the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens this library's slug-based ids need. The same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check accepts those ids, and all 13 survive the GLB reload.

About the Opening bridge 3D model

Opening bridge is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Bicycle City set. It measures 6.7 m × 7.2 m × 13 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,872 triangles across 47 meshes, with 13 named parts and a baked animation (12.0 s). Download the 204 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Opening bridge 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 204 KB: 1,872 triangles, 5,616 vertices and 47 materials, modelled in metres at 6.7 m × 7.2 m × 13 m.
Is Opening bridge animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (12.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Opening bridge 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
