Window-cleaning cradle

A low-poly rooftop window-cleaning rig: a ballasted roof carriage on short rails with a slewing mast, a long orange jib with a counterweight, and a red guard-railed cradle hanging on two wire ropes. It plays a seamless 10-second loop: the cradle is lowered, pauses, is hoisted back up and the jib slews to the next bay.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Window-cleaning cradle for the Rooftop District kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Rooftop District kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Life above the streets. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: brick red #c32222, tar grey #757e8a, sunset orange #ed7e1d, water-tower brown #6b4a2e, brick red dark #821717, tar grey dark #525860, brick red light #db5757, tar grey light #a3a5a8, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `skylineHeight` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Skyline height" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size at default: about 2.5 m wide (X) × 4.44 m tall × 4.0 m deep (Z). The mast top sits at 3.6 m, the jib reaches 2.4 m out toward +Z (the facade side) with a counterweight tail toward -Z, and the 2.4 × 0.66 m cradle has 1.0 m guard rails. Origin is the bottom centre of the carriage, the timber sleepers rest on y = 0, front faces +Z. The GLB has 1,320 triangles in 27 meshes and no textures; all 12 kit palette colours are used and every material is named exactly after its colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name repeats: recolour by name. The GLB carries one baked 10 s clip, 'scene-motion': the head slews ±15° about the slew bearing axis; the cradle lowers and rises (translation) and rocks gently about the axis through its two stirrup tops after each stop; each rope scales in Y from its sheave so it always meets the stirrup; the winch drum turns on its axle by the rope paid out. Carriage, rails and sleepers never move. Because the model must rest on y = 0, the cradle hoists within the jib height (its floor stays at least 0.25 m above the roof) instead of dropping down a facade; place the asset at a roof edge to imply the drop. The cradle is empty (no worker). The poster frame (t = 0) is mid-descent. Params are baked at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer: skylineHeight (the kit's 'Skyline height') sets the mast height from 3.0 to 4.2 m and with it the hoist travel; jibReach and cradleLength reshape the jib and cradle. glb-lint: 0 errors, 6 heuristic warnings (per-mesh duplicate materials, deliberate non-indexed flat-shaded geometry, intended overlaps of wheels/axles/chassis, the slew table and ropes flagged as detached though they sit on the slew ring and hang from the sheaves across part groups, and a 4.44 m height vs the direction's 1 m reference). plan-check passes except its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; a de-hyphenated copy passes, and three-check confirms all 9 ids survive the GLB reload.

About the Window-cleaning cradle 3D model

Window-cleaning cradle is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Rooftop District set. It measures 3.2 m × 4.4 m × 4.3 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,320 triangles across 27 meshes, with 9 named parts and a baked animation (10.0 s). Download the 141 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Window-cleaning cradle 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 141 KB: 1,320 triangles, 3,960 vertices and 27 materials, modelled in metres at 3.2 m × 4.4 m × 4.3 m.
Is Window-cleaning cradle animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (10.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Window-cleaning cradle 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
