Crates

A low-poly pallet load of robot-part shipping crates: white ribbed crates with orange corner posts and blue label plates stacked on a dark-wood pallet. The top crate's hinged lid stands open over a black foam bed packed with robot heads, joints, gears and battery packs.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Crates for the Robot Factory kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Robot Factory kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A clean line that builds robots. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: white #f4f1ec, light grey #a3a5a8, electric blue #136dec, orange #ed7e1d, white dark #d7cebc, light grey dark #7c7f83, white light #f9f8f6, light grey light #cccccc, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `lineSpeed` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Line speed" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: a 1.2 × 0.8 m EUR pallet (0.144 m tall) carrying 0.57 × 0.76 × 0.4 m crates. The closed stack is 1.07 m tall; at the default lidOpen of 0.7 the open lid reaches 1.81 m and swings about 0.4 m behind the pallet. The origin is the bottom centre of the pallet, which rests on y = 0, and the crate fronts face +Z. The GLB has 1,840 triangles across 20 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and all 12 colours are used. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so a colour name can appear on several materials: recolour by name. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. crates sets how many crates are stacked (1–4); the last one placed is the open one. lidOpen sets how far that lid is raised. lineSpeed (the kit's 'Line speed') animates nothing because the asset is static: it sets how full the open crate is, from 1 part at 0 to 6 parts at 1 (4 at the default). glb-lint: 0 errors and 3 warnings. Two are about material count and both come from the per-mesh materials. The third flags overlaps where ribs, posts and the foam bed are deliberately nested in the crate walls. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires; three-check accepts those ids and all 5 survive the GLB reload. The 390×844 portrait hero crops the sides of the stack; the 1280×800 hero is the delivered preview.

About the Crates 3D model

Crates is a free low-poly 3D model from the Robot Factory set. It measures 1.2 m × 1.8 m × 83 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,840 triangles across 20 meshes, with 5 named parts. Download the 110 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Crates 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 110 KB: 1,840 triangles, 3,388 vertices and 20 materials, modelled in metres at 1.2 m × 1.8 m × 83 cm.
Can I animate Crates?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 5 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Crates 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
