Bookshelf walls

A low-poly, floor-to-ceiling library bookshelf wall: a mahogany carcass with a stepped cornice, shelves packed with upright, leaning and stacked books, and a rolling ladder hooked onto a brass rail. It is a modular 2 m piece that snaps on a 1 m grid.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Bookshelf walls for the Library and Study kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It is a modular piece that snaps on a 1 m grid: give it a length in whole metres and put the origin at its snapping end, stated in meta.notes. This is one part of the Library and Study kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): Tall shelves and a reading chair. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: mahogany #602b20, forest green #3a883a, brass #b28c34, parchment #e6d6b3, mahogany dark #26110d, forest green dark #235223, mahogany light #944738, forest green light #5db15d, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `bookColours` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Book colours" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 2 m long (X, a whole number of metres on the 1 m grid), 2.4 m tall and 0.34 m deep as a carcass; about 0.94 m deep including the rolling ladder's foot. Origin: the snapping end, which is the left end seen from the front (x = 0), at the back face (z = 0, so the piece sits flush against a room wall), at floor level. The run spans x = 0 to x = length, the books face +Z and the model rests on y = 0. The plinth, cornice and brass rail run flush to both ends and nothing crosses x = 0 or x = length, so pieces butt into one continuous wall; each piece has its own end uprights, so a joint shows a double upright. There is one bay per grid metre. The back is a plain dark mahogany panel meant to face a wall. The GLB has 2,644 triangles in 23 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip; three-check's 2,934-triangle figure also counts the viewer's staging ground, which is not exported. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour, and the GLB lists names more than once because the exporter clones materials per mesh. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. bookColours (the kit's 'Book colours') sets the share of spines drawn from the bright kit colours (greens, parchment, warm white, brass, mid grey) instead of leather tones: 0 gives all leather browns and black, 1 gives about 60 % bright. The book layout comes from a fixed seed, so it is deterministic. length (1–4 m) rebuilds the run. shelves sets 4–7 book levels, bookFill thins each row, and ladder toggles the rolling ladder. Book meshes are named per colour (books.<colour>), so which ones exist depends on bookColours. The max extreme (4 m, 7 shelves, fill 1, colours 1) passed three-check at 6,332 triangles, and the min extreme (1 m, 4 shelves, fill 0.4, colours 0) passed at 812, both inside the 10,000 budget. Upright books are open boxes with no bottom or back face, which are never visible against the shelf and back panel. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings, covering material count and exporter duplicates, non-indexed geometry (deliberate flat shading), overlapping sibling boxes (shelves between uprights), the rail reported as detached (its brackets touch the uprights' front edge), and a 2.4 m height against the direction's 1 m reference. Its verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no host requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes. three-check and the GLB reload keep all 10 planned ids. Fix round 1 loosened the hero framing so the ladder wheels clear the bottom edge, and made bookColours 0 give pure leather tones.

About the Bookshelf walls 3D model

Bookshelf walls is a free low-poly 3D model from the Library and Study set. It measures 2.0 m × 2.4 m × 94 cm (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 2,644 triangles across 23 meshes, with 15 named parts. Download the 207 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Bookshelf walls 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 207 KB: 2,644 triangles, 7,932 vertices and 23 materials, modelled in metres at 2.0 m × 2.4 m × 94 cm.
Can I animate Bookshelf walls?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 15 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Bookshelf walls 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
