Designer Talk: ask why

Designer Talk is the running commentary under the design — the agent's own voice on the choices it made. Open it to read why the layout works the way it does, agree or disagree with a note, or ask a question back — a steering tool for intent, where the comments tool covers edits.

The rail

The Designer talk button in the preview rail opens the panel: a list of notes, each a design decision the agent called out — "one-word hero over a dashboard", "a quiet second action beside the primary" — with the markers on the preview showing where each note sits. The header counts the notes and how many are still unanswered.

The Designer Talk rail — notes with markers, Agree / Disagree / Ask / Skip

Responding to a note

Each note is a question the agent has already half-asked. Four answers:

  • Agree — keep the choice; the note closes
  • Disagree — send it back with your direction; the next turn reworks that spot
  • Ask — ask why it works that way; the agent answers in the thread
  • Skip — leave it unanswered; it stays open in the count

Disagreeing is steering — "disagree, this should feel quieter" is a brief to the agent with the context already attached. Answered notes drop out of the unanswered count; new notes arrive as the design changes.

Why it exists

Comments fix what; Designer Talk explores why. Before you steer a choice away, the note tells you what the choice was for — sometimes the answer changes your mind, sometimes it sharpens the disagreement into a better brief. It's the difference between editing a design and arguing with a designer.

Talk vs comments

  • Designer Talk — intent and rationale; the note is the topic
  • Comment pins — an edit you already know you want, placed on an element

A disagreement that becomes a concrete fix lands the same place a pin does: as a comment in the next turn, on the element in question.

Tip: Read the Designer Talk notes before the first steer — the agent's rationale often resolves the thing you were about to change, or tells you exactly which assumption to break.

Send the answers

Like comments, Talk responses ride into the next turn — Send N new comments to agent folds unanswered disagreements and questions into the brief, and the agent answers or reworks the spots the notes covered. Clear answered notes as they land so the rail stays about what's still open.
