Import a Claude Design export

If you already have a design system from Claude Design — or a project exported from it — Import brings it into 1DesignTool as a saved design system. The import reads the export's tokens and rules and lands them as a system your projects can start from, the same as one built here.

What the import reads

A Claude Design export carries its design language as data — the tokens and rules the system codified. The import maps that language into a 1DesignTool system: colors, type scale, spacing and the rules come across; what doesn't map lands as close as the format allows.

The import flow — point at the export, the system lands in Systems

Importing one

From the Systems screen, choose Import and point at the Claude Design export — the system lands in the list alongside your saved systems, named and ready to seed the next project. It behaves like a system built here: pick it at project creation, steer it after, save it as a new system if it evolves.

Why it's useful

The import exists because design work already happened elsewhere — a system you built in Claude Design shouldn't restart here. Bring it in and the next project starts from your real tokens, not a generic direction.

What comes across

  • Tokens — color, type scale, spacing, radii
  • Rules — the system's checks and constraints
  • The system's shape — a 1DesignTool system, editable after

What doesn't map becomes a note in the imported system rather than silent loss — you see what carried and what approximated.

Tip: After importing, run one throwaway project on the system to see what actually landed — the import maps the language faithfully, but one build is the fastest way to read what your system looks like here.
