Train cars

A low-poly metro cab car with a safety-yellow raked nose, dark ribbon windows, a line-colour livery band, three pairs of sliding doors per side and two bogies. It comes with a seamless 8 s station-stop loop: the doors slide open and shut and the wiper sweeps.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Train cars for the Subway Station kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. It moves: author a seamless baked loop (2–12 s) with every pivot exactly at its hinge, axle or swivel, and keep the base still. This is one part of the Subway Station kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A busy underground stop. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: tile white #f4f1ec, safety yellow #ffdd33, steel #7e8c9a, line colour #988e81, tile white dark #d7cebc, safety yellow dark #e6bf00, tile white light #f9f8f6, safety yellow light #ffea80, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `lineColour` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Line colour" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 16.8 m long over the couplers (16.0 m body), 2.8 m wide over the body (2.88 m over the door leaves) and 3.72 m tall to the top of the roof AC pods. The floor and door sills are at 1.2 m, which meets the kit's platform (deck 1.0 m above the rail head) with a small step. The wheels are 0.84 m across on a 1.435 m gauge. The origin is at the bottom centre, every wheel rests on y = 0, and the cab end faces +Z. The rear end has a gangway bellows so cars can be lined up into a train. The GLB has 1,988 triangles in 65 meshes. All 12 kit colours are used, and every material is named exactly after its palette colour. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so the same colour name appears on several materials: recolour by name. Warm white and safety yellow light are mildly emissive so the lamps and destination display look lit. The destination display is a blank panel: no text. The baked clip scene-motion (8 s, seamless) is a station stop. Every door leaf slides along the car side from its closed position (the pivot is the leaf's meeting edge at the sill): closed 0–1 s, opening 1–2.2 s, open 2.2–5.4 s, closing 5.4–6.6 s, closed to 8 s. The wiper turns on its spindle at the bottom of the right windscreen and makes two sweeps. The body, bogies and wheels never move. The export snapshots a mid-loop frame, so the glTF's static node pose is a frame from the clip, not t = 0. Play the clip, or seek it to 0, for the closed rest pose. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change the model when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. lineColour (the kit's 'Line colour') sets the height of the line-colour livery band on the sides and door leaves, from 0.10 to 0.40 m. carLength sets the body length; the bogies, roof pods and underframe follow. doorsPerSide places 2–4 evenly spaced doorways per side. On short cars with many doors, leaf travel shrinks so neighbouring leaves never meet: 0.62 m per leaf at the defaults, down to 0.33 m at 12 m with 4 doors. doorOpen scales the door travel in the loop, and 0 leaves only the wiper moving. glb-lint: 0 errors and 6 heuristic warnings. Two come from the per-mesh materials (material count and duplicates). One flags non-indexed geometry, which is deliberate flat shading. One flags overlaps where the cab face details, windows and bands deliberately sit on their panels. One flags 'detached' parts: each mesh sits on or in a mesh in another part group. The last flags height vs a 1 m reference; the car is real-world metres. The verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no host requirements contract was supplied. plan-check passes except for its part-id regex, which rejects the hyphens in the slug-based ids this library requires. three-check accepts those ids, and all 24 survive the GLB reload.

About the Train cars 3D model

Train cars is a free animated low-poly 3D model from the Subway Station set. It measures 2.9 m × 3.7 m × 17 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,988 triangles across 65 meshes, with 24 named parts and a baked animation (8.0 s). Download the 243 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Train cars 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 243 KB: 1,988 triangles, 5,964 vertices and 65 materials, modelled in metres at 2.9 m × 3.7 m × 17 m.
Is Train cars animated?
Yes — the GLB carries a baked animation (8.0 s), ready to play with any glTF animation mixer.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Train cars 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
