Lava flow tiles

A low-poly 4 × 4 m Volcano Island ground tile: a glowing orange lava river winding in a gentle S between raised black basalt levees, with dark crust plates floating on it, thin smoke rising off the flow, and basalt boulders and a few ferns on black sand. The flow continues through the front and back edges and the sand meets flush at the sides, so copies tile seamlessly.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Lava flow tiles for the Volcano Island kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. Make it a ground piece on an exact 4 × 4 m footprint with flat edges at y = 0 that tile seamlessly with its neighbours in every direction; origin at the tile centre. This is one part of the Volcano Island kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A smoking peak over black sand. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: basalt black #151619, lava orange #ed7e1d, ash grey #757e8a, jungle green #3a883a, basalt black dark #090a0b, lava orange dark #af590e, basalt black light #3a3c40, lava orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `eruptionStage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Eruption stage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

  • Lava flow tile
  • Black sand and ash
  • Basalt levees
  • Molten lava
  • Crust plates
  • Basalt boulders
  • Fern tufts
  • Smoke

Note: Size: an exact 4 × 4 m footprint (x and z from −2 to +2), 0.98 m tall to the top of the smoke. The levee crests stand about 0.46 m high, and the sand is 0.22 m at the borders. The origin is the tile centre at the bottom, everything rests on y = 0, and the lava flows from the back (−Z) to the front (+Z). Tiling: the side edges are flat at 0.22 m. The channel centreline is x = meander·sin(πz/2), so the levee-and-channel section and the lava colour bands cut through the front and back edges at x = 0 identically, and lava tiles chain front to back. Neighbours must use the same channelWidth, meander, leveeHeight and eruptionStage to match. eruptionStage (the kit's 'Eruption stage') raises the lava level from 0.13 m to 0.27 m (which widens the visible flow), cuts the floating crust plates from 12 to 3, and grows the smoke from one short column to three taller ones. The GLB has 6,208 triangles in 18 meshes, is static and carries no animation clip. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults. Every material is named exactly after a kit palette colour (10 of the 12; warm white and dark wood are unused). The exporter writes one material per mesh, so some names appear more than once; recolour by name. The lava materials have a low emissive term equal to their base colour so the flow reads as hot. The two smoke materials are alpha-blended at 50% opacity. glb-lint reports 0 errors and only heuristic warnings (duplicate same-name materials, non-indexed flat-shaded primitives, overlapping part boxes, ferns flagged as detached because each part is one merged mesh). plan-check rejects the hyphenated slug part ids the library mandates; a copy with the ids de-hyphenated passes, and three-check accepts the hyphenated ids.

About the Lava flow tiles 3D model

Lava flow tiles is a free low-poly 3D model from the Volcano Island set. It measures 4.0 m × 98 cm × 4.0 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 6,208 triangles across 18 meshes, with 8 named parts. Download the 454 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Lava flow tiles 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 454 KB: 6,208 triangles, 18,624 vertices and 18 materials, modelled in metres at 4.0 m × 98 cm × 4.0 m.
Can I animate Lava flow tiles?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 8 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Lava flow tiles 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
