Cave

A low-poly volcanic lava-tube cave: a banded basalt cliff with a tall faceted arch opening into a dark throat, a glowing lava tongue creeping out over black sand, and a jungle-capped hill on top with a smoking steam vent.

How it was made

The brief given to 1DesignTool's “3D object” template:

Cave for the Volcano Island kit. Design it as one clear asset at believable real-world scale for that setting (state the size in metres in meta.notes), with its main parts modelled and named, readable at thumbnail size and from every orbit angle. This is one part of the Volcano Island kit (Low-poly style, flat-lowpoly direction): A smoking peak over black sand. Use ONLY the kit palette, by name: basalt black #151619, lava orange #ed7e1d, ash grey #757e8a, jungle green #3a883a, basalt black dark #090a0b, lava orange dark #af590e, basalt black light #3a3c40, lava orange light #eea668, soot black #1b1b22, warm white #f2ede2, mid grey #7d828c, dark wood #3d2a1c. Every material's `name` must be exactly the palette colour it uses — the GLB carries these names so the kit recolours as one; an unnamed material fails delivery. Kit knob: expose a param `eruptionStage` (0–1, default 0.5) for the kit's "Eruption stage" setting wherever it makes sense on this part, and keep that id.

Note: Size: 18.3 m wide, 17.8 m deep and 9 m tall to the top of the jungle cap. The steam column takes the bounding box to 15.51 m, so remove the steam node if you only want the landform. The cave mouth is 4.6 m wide and 4.2 m tall and faces +Z. The origin is the bottom centre of the footprint, and the model rests on y = 0. The GLB has 1,732 triangles in 18 meshes (merged per part and colour) and no animation clip. Normals are baked flat (non-indexed). The throat is a solid soot-black plug about 2.2 m inside the mouth. The cave does not continue past it, so it is a facade entrance, not a walkable tunnel. Every material is named exactly after its kit palette colour. At the defaults, 10 of the 12 kit colours are in the GLB; lava orange light and mid grey only appear at eruptionStage above 0.6 and 0.5. The exporter writes one material per mesh, so one colour name can appear on several materials: recolour by name. The lava materials carry a mild emissive of their own colour. eruptionStage (the kit's 'Eruption stage') changes how far the lava tongue runs out of the mouth: about 2.5 m when dormant and 7.5 m at 1, where it runs past the sand. Below 0.12 the lava is cooled black crust; above 0.6 it gets a pale-hot centre. The stage also sets the steam column (2 to 5 puffs, with an ash-grey root above 0.5). At 0.85 and above, ash buries the jungle cap. cliffHeight scales the strata. mouthWidth widens the face to keep at least 3.4 m of rock either side. mouthHeight is capped so that at least 1.4 m of rock stays above the vault. Params are baked into the GLB at their defaults and only change geometry when the scene is rebuilt in the viewer. eruptionStage 0, 0.5 and 1 were rendered and passed three-check; the other params were only checked at their defaults. Viewer-only staging: exposure 0.85, and the staging ground is not in the GLB. glb-lint: 0 errors, plus expected heuristic warnings. Duplicate materials come from the per-mesh export, unindexed geometry is deliberate flat shading, sibling overlap comes from rock tiers embedded on purpose, and the scale warning compares against a 1 m reference. The verdict reads UNVERIFIED only because no requirements contract was supplied. plan-check rejects only the hyphenated library part ids, because its regex allows no hyphen; the same plan with the slug de-hyphenated passes, and three-check keeps all 10 ids. Fix rounds: (1) the hero cropped the foreground boulders, and the steam was too small to read; (2) the lava was reshaped from a floating lozenge into a tongue that is full width where it leaves the throat.

About the Cave 3D model

Cave is a free low-poly 3D model from the Volcano Island set. It measures 18 m × 16 m × 18 m (W × H × D) at real-world scale and is built from 1,732 triangles across 18 meshes, with 10 named parts. Download the 138 KB GLB and drop it into three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot or Blender — free for commercial use, no attribution required.

Is the Cave 3D model free for commercial use?
Yes. It is free under the 1DesignTool 3D library license: use it in personal and commercial work — games, apps, websites, renders, ads and client projects — and modify it as you like, with no credit required. What you can't do is re-sell or re-distribute the file on its own or inside a model pack.
What file format is it, and how big is it?
A single binary glTF 2.0 file (.glb), 138 KB: 1,732 triangles, 5,196 vertices and 18 materials, modelled in metres at 18 m × 16 m × 18 m.
Can I animate Cave?
It ships as a static mesh. Its 10 named parts are separate nodes, so you can move or animate each one in your engine.
Which engines and tools can open it?
Anything that reads glTF 2.0. three.js, React Three Fiber, Babylon.js, Godot 4 and Blender import the GLB directly; Unity and Unreal Engine load it through their glTF importers. The snippets above show the exact code for three.js, React Three Fiber, Godot and Blender.
How was the Cave 3D model made?
Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) generated it inside 1DesignTool's 3D template from a written brief, then the design kit's checks verified the geometry and the GLB before it was published. You can make your own the same way with 1DesignTool.
